Morning Papers vs. Lolita Have you guys noticed this shift in conciousness regarding some of Prince's women characters in his songs? Like in the Morning Papers it is a story about an older man falling for a younger girl and remember Madhouse and jailbait and R U legal yet and all that? She's just a baby?
Now he has sung in Lolita about how she is much too young to get with him? Also in "Incense and Candles" he sings about how he needs a woman "mature and grown"? I wonder why he has changed his views?

Trust me to write "to" where "too" is the correct one.

Great point. But lust isn't really all that bad is it? I mean love is obviously stronger, more intense and rewarding but lust is also a part of the human experience isn't it?

I mean love is obviously stronger, more intense and rewarding but lust is also a part of the human experience isn't it? well, lust is considered one of the Seven Deadly Sins...if you ascribe to that sort of thing... The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

I see. Lust can be bad...when you start to objectify people...but can't lust also be like a very intense crush...like you actually liking the person very much and enjoy being in their presence but also have a strong sexual attraction to them? You don't know them well enough to "love" them yet...you may not really even know them that much..but you want to know them...that would be lust except I don't see it being a harmful thing. That kind of "lust" can energize you and make you feel alive can't it?

Because when he was singing morning papers n all he was genuine and singing w/Mayte on the mind.
Now he's singing w/a jealous Mani on the mind..... .....would be my guess.

It's perfectly natural to feel lust. It only becomes a problem if you go to extremes, either of indulging every lustful impulse, or denying every impulse.

Exactly - he'll publicly crave a younger girl (or twins) at a later date, just right now he feels obliged to pander to the whole Jehovah bollocks and the very faded Mani-myth - I mean seriously, just listen to the Style lyrics from '96 (and the whole of the 2nd Emancipation disk) and then look what happened just a couple of years later in '98/'99 in terms of replacing her with that slapper Mani... What goes around comes around...

To me its pretty much the same thing. I predict Lolita will make a cheater out of him and then later he'll write a song where about how he wouldn't usually fall, but this time it's real love. This is usually how the story ends so I would say it's sort of a "Curious Child" situation.

Well said. btw I was only comparing the two songs and such because Prince seemed to date alot of younger women in the past (anna g, Mayte..ect...) and he kinda had this "age ain't nothing but a number" kinda view...now he is with Mani..while she is younger than him she is still older than those other girls and seems very mature and like a woman not a girl. I'm just making the comparison because he used to kinda be an advocate for older man/younger women relationships and now in Lolita it sounds like a firm stance against going for a woman much too young and in insence and candles sings for a woman NOT to take off her clothes. It just seems he has different views of women now...that is all I was saying and want to know if anyone eles noticed this.
