The album's a bust, basically. Damn, did Prince really lose interest in his own album just for Tamar? I'll find it sadly funny when she sells less than 30,000 copies the first week and then disappears. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

yep it is...after an appearance on Idol, & GM to only get those small increases....that is just amazing. SO much for the BET Awards who reach an even smaller audience [Edited 6/21/06 8:20am] Dance... Let me see you dance

Depends on how u look at it. A half million sold with basically no marketing and put out his own terms? I would call that a success. Plus I dig the material.

I agree, but how many copies do you think he would have sold if he hadn't gone on AI? Far less, I believe. He already had sold around 400,000 copies or so before the AI performance. Actually, the AI performance gave sales a boost (up 70 % or so), but on an overall low level. To really market an album, you have to be present when it's hot. He was #1 with 3121, I wouldn't call that a failure, but he was in the middle of nowhere when that happened. For higher sales, it would have been beneficial to be around at that time to get more casual buyers into 3121, but he decided to be Prince again...

I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired!

I am caught up right now because this is the first time in a long while that I feel the album should have went over well with the general public. With Rave, the Rainbow children, and even Musicology i really could understand why most of the public and casual fans couldn't get with it. But 3121 is more accesible in my opinion and I'd love to hear The Word on the radio even though i'm a die hard and usually doon't care about the public's reactions.

Co-sign... plus, there was no plug for the album on AI. He just showed up less than 10 minutes before the show was over, no announcement or mention of a new album.

Prince " but instead: AI Watcher : " wow . Prince very cool , awesome songs , wonder what thats from . I know I'll pop on itunes and check it out.....hmmmm nothing, must not be out yet...screw it "

Oh well, I guess hindsight is always 20/20 [Edited 6/22/06 11:10am]

Depends on how u look at it. A half million sold with basically no marketing and put out his own terms? I would call that a success. Plus I dig the material. I agree completely! How many artists can go Gold with ZERO radio airplay? Answer: very few. To be certified gold under those restrictions is a major success. In some respects, it’s a testament to Prince’s ability overcome the excessive influence of radio on sales (and careers).

It seems like Prince aint complaining too much with 3121 outcome.
