The first time I saw Prince live was March 21, 1983. I was almost 16 years old. My first thought? I couldn't think. I was like this- -for most of the show. I have never seen a show like that before. I had never experienced music live like that. Great great experience.
I was hooked for life.

He walked buy me on his way up to a song stage. He looked like a 12 year girl with a bad wig. But he was pretty on stage.

My 1st thought upon seeing him up close was "He's so petite". I mean, obviously I knew he was short, but he looked so elfin. Of course, this was during the years, so that may have been the effect he was going 4.

The Controversy tour was my first Prince experience. I fell in love that night and have been in love ever since!!!

Honestly, I was genuinely shocked at how small he is. It's like the whole of his body was targeted with a shrinking laser to about 60% normal size.

Except his head. That is normal size.

The first time I was close to the stage at a concert was during the years as well. I was shocked at how tiny he was. It was also very surreal, realizing that I was just within feet of Prince. I remember noticing his shoulder blades sticking through his shirt while he was playing guitar, and thinking, "I'm so close to Prince, I can see he has bony shoulder blades."

He seemed extremely confident and shy at the same time. Fabulous is a word that comes to mind.

Mark me as the umpteenth person who was shocked at how tiny the brother was.

Contrast the 1999 video (where it's now obvious he was shot from the ground up), where he looked really tall and wore a long, flowing raincoat, with seeing him at the Capitol Centre for his Lovesexy concert, from a few dozen feet away: Sans the long, flowing getups, it was easier to see how petite he was.

This first time I saw Prince and he saw me was at Paisley Park at one of his Friday night gigs he used to do back in the day.
He walked by me on his way to the stage and gave me this dirty look and came up to me and said "you gotta get up outta here, I can't be the 2nd sexiest MF
in my own crip"

The first time I met Price was in 1993. I worked at a club called Club Zei in DC. A limo pulled down the alley security comes up to me and says they had Prince. We took him through the side entrance and up to VIP. The first thing I thought was man, hes so little (I'm 6'3)he has a huge head (big hair), that he was dressed extremly feminine but carried himself like a pimp...with cane and walk to match. I said welcome to Club Zei Prince...I really enjoy your music. He said thanks and thank you very quietly and pimped his bad ass up the stairs to the VIP! He had Myte with him they had on matching outfits. Carmen Elctra was also with the group and she was fine as hell!!

The first time I saw Prince in person was London 86.

My first thought was "Fuck! I knew he was supposed to be small, but I never realised he was THAT small!". Then I noticed that his smell was really strong, but not off putting. Wierd.

The second time I met him, in Utrect 87, he nearly ran me over ( I never had a ticket for that night, but I went to the stage gate on the off chance), and as an apology, he gave me a lift in his limo back to the city centre.

He was chatty and great.

The third time was in London 88.....and we had an mini arguement! But I'll tell you about that another day!

Yeah, I would never be one to even notice that someone had a particular smell (except bad BO), but Prince had a wierd smell. Incence or something. You could smell it before you got to him. It smelt fine....but ....weird!

I thought the complete opposite. Maybe that's because by the time I saw him (this year), I'd already heard that he was really tiny. He wasn't.
I also remember thinking, "I guess that wasn't airbrush, after-all"...I was convinced that the photos circulating here were really well touched up. I was close enough to see that it was more genetics than retouch.

Something else just came to me...

His heels. When I saw him he was wearing these heels that were like...clear-ish with gold glitter inside or something shiny. I couldn't see them all that well but I just remember thinking, "He really wasn't bs-ing when he said "I don't wear heels 'cause I'm short, I wear them because women like them." I was like, "You damn right! I want me some glitter boots too!"

I still want 'em.

i've nicknamed 'em "the stripper joints", because the plexiglass heels remind me of those clear-heeled platform shoes you sometimes see strippers and porn stars wearing.

He was onstage but I wasn't so close that the perspective would be skewed.
A better gauge was he invited some up there to dance. He really wasn't that small.
The way everyone spoke of him, I thought I would be able to put him in my pocket.

When I first saw him live at the Tamar concert this year I was shocked that he wasn't as short as I expected him to be. But he is VERY peitie, like small bones, slender but yet he is also kinda muscular. For some reason he sometimes looks like a persian man or middle eastern from far away but then when you really look you can tell he is a black guy.

I just thought his mannerisms and vibe suggested that he is a very classy gentleman. Like a very worldly, refined man.
