I can't think of any right now, but I think there's some songs with instrumental solos that probably should have been done on guitar...??

madhouseman

probably on his version of PACMAN FEVER. That was a real letdown.
The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/

I donĀ“t like the solo on "So far so pleased", it sounds like

a 0815 solo.

I always thought the guitar (not bass) solo on Days of Wild was a little weak.

And although Prince didn't play it, Sonny's bass solo on Live 4 Love?! Pah-leeeze!

Ahm, that ain't a bass solo at all. It's a compositional fill!

His worst guitar solo? Hmmm, "Gold" is pretty awful but a lot of people seem to be getting kicks from it so who am I to say. Wait, I think I can come up with a second one...

Ahm... OK 'Compositional fill' but it's still sounds poo poo!

I do agree about the Gold solo, I think it's terrible. While we r at it the solo at the end of Interactive is way too OTT.

I was at (and have a video boot of) the Radio City March 26, 1993 show, and during 'Three Chains of Gold', when it came time for the big solo at the end, Prince's distortion pedal failed, and he was left to just pedaling the Zoom and strumming. It sounded like Excelsior's warp engines failing in 'Star Trek 3'. Prince just says "shit!" and cues the band to finish the song. I guess it technically can't be a bad solo since it was due to equipment failure, but the audience was full of people who had never heard the song before, and after that happened, it was like the whole place went "...oookaaayyy..." Now, when I watch the video, I usually get kind of a cringy, "uh-oh, here it comes" anticipatory feeling when that part comes up, then after it's over, I admit, I crack up.

For another bad solo, try the really out of tune one on 'Gotta Broken Heart Again" from the City Lights Paris 1981. Eeewww..
Difficult to think to many others I don't like though. Prince's playing is almost always very solid...to say the least...
