What kinda Prince fan r u? Use the "Star" system I think Prince fans can be classified into 3 categories:
The "Baby I'm A Star" fan - these people say they are Prince fans be in reality they are Purple Rain fans. They have never head of the song Starfish and Coffee or Movie Star. The "Starfish and Coffee" fan - these people think they have gone deep by getting into Sign O' The Times, but they have never heard of the song Movie Star. The "Movie Star" fan - these people have gone all the way. Hardcore Prince fans who have heard it all and are the true Prince fans. [Edited 6/20/06 12:12pm] Do you remember lying in bed

I'd add another - The Sun, Moon and Stars fan - a fan who got into Prince via a quite weak late 90s/00s album and is only just discovering the wealth of material previously released. | |

Fans who think Prince's "star" dome started with "Purple Rain. What classification would fans of the earlier work be placed into? I mean, because you watched "Jam of the Year" that means you went far? give me a break lol. I think you should forget the star crap and replace it with a word that covers his entire career. A majority of people I meet who say they are Prince fans fall under the Baby I'm A Star category. I have yet to meet one in the Movie Star category. Do you remember lying in bed

I never understood his music until now. We went from having only 1999 and Purple Rain to 14 Cd's in a matter of months.
I am addicted now and I can say that so far I really enjoy everything I have bought. Yes, I now have new and old Prince. I have no idea why I didn't listen to Prince more in the past Now, I have to have my Prince fix Daily. Am I crazy?? I have always LOVED music, but never been into an artist or band like I am into Prince. I am always looking for used Prince CD's. I just got The Gold Experience and I LOVE it!! So what what kind of Prince fan am I??? | |

I have been a fan since 1984, however only recently have I discovered the joy in 'unofficial' recordings.....  .....Needless to say I now own more boots than the England Squad (should I admit that in public??) and am enjoying more of Prince than I ever had before. I also have all officially released albums, may not love them all, but certainly enjoy them.
However, there are many folks on the Org who know way more than I do about Prince, I just love his music and am grateful to have experienced it through the years. I am inbetween, Starfish and Coffee and Movie Star, as I am sure there are more things I haven't heard yet  | |

That system is way too weak. Most people here are definitely the Movie Star type as defined on this thread. The other two categories don't really post here much or at all. I mean... someone who only heard of Purple Rain? On the Org? Maybe a couple of posts appear from time to time from this undercasual fan type, but it is rare. As for knowing SOTT, it is barely above just knowing Purple Rain. | |

I agree the system is a bit weak, but generally you can categorize Prince fans into either Baby I'm A Star, Starfish or Movie Star If you never even heard of Starfish, you are definately in the Baby I'm A Star category. If you've heard Starfish but not Movie Star, then you're in the Starfish category. But if your a big enough fan to of even heard of Movie Star then you're a true Prince fan, generally speaking. I also agree most people on this site are in the Movie Star category, but the general public are definately in the Baby I'm A Star category.
