Minneapolis ppl-what is the 1st thing I should do??

I'm going to visit my mother in Uptown who moved their early this year, along side my 2 kids. B4 you jump n' reply, I already know there's an FAQ 4 this city but I want a good guidance from the ppl who live there.

Ok, what is the 1st thing I could do 4 fun??(4 a mother who brings her babies along everywhere wink)

Best places 4 a NEW YORKER SISTA lol, I'm a city girl. Most beautiful places(I already know about that lake, don't know its name tho), places I should be aware of, best music store, best mall,,,etc etc etc etc.

Thanx!

1st thing you should do? Unpack your bags. You don't want creases now, do you. smile
Some people are like Slinkies...

They're good for nothing but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.

hey,
i live here. have a child. for one Let it be that is a good music store. especially when you want to find something you cant find anywhere else.
then there is cheapo. just a bunch of used and new stuff. sometimes you can find some things there.
i work right next store to it. Keys Cafe.(next to let it be)
not to plug my resturant but we do breakfast all day and quicky sandwiches to go. come and see me.
then there is Mall of America. they also have a thing called kids Quest. drop them off for fun while you shop. they feed them and everything. then there is the Walker Art museum. or the Childrens museum. so that is what i can think of off the top of my head. Remember fun is what you make it anyway. hope it is somewhat helpful i am sure there are many who gave you some good things.
hopefully if luck prevails there will be a party and you can go to that. kids are optional i suppose. hope you have fun here. be sure to go around the lakes. you will be uptown so they are walking distance.

Wow biggrin thats some info you got in there. Thank you, this is the 2st time I come to Uptown(1st time was in a rush, so I didn't have a chance to explore the city) hope its not the last. I also heard that the ppl there are CRAZY yet mellowed and friendly, well thats mighty cool I think.

I don't work at Keys, and I will agree it's a great place to eat. Since you do HAVE to check out Let It Be, you'll be right there anyways...
a ps about Let It Be, if your into vinyl, ask at the counter if they have any P rarities, they sometimes have stuff under 'lock and key' that is pretty hard to find.

If you are into bloody marys/screwdrivers, The Uptown Bar and Grill is a MPLS tradition, huge greasy breakfasts, big lunch menu, and if you get a mary or screwdriver, you get to keep the glass (it's a great souvenir.) If you go on a weekday, it's not so crowded and would be a fine place to bring a kid into (sit outside if possible!)

Make sure to walk Lake Calhoun and Lake of the Isles, they are gorgeous.

A cheesy thing we have in St. Paul right now is Lucy statues (from the peanuts) if your kid would like to see some of them, you could make a day of the childrens museum (which is in St Paul and also has a Peanuts exhibit) and the statues.

For dinner, try and eat out in Uptown, if you like thai food, Chaing Mai Thai in Calhoun Square is to die for. Also uptown are Figlio and Chino Latino, some MPLS faves...

Good Luck!

Yay Keys! We actually brought our new-found friends from the Celebration to Keys this year! smile

But-
The best breakfast in Minneapolis (and Uptown) is at the Sunny Side-Up Cafe (simply Sunny Side to us locals). It's on 27th and Lyndale, in Uptown. Yummy yummy yummy.

Also- The sculpture garden at the Walker Art Museum is free and fun to walk around. It bridges across to Loring Park (my neighborhood) and there's a really big park with a tiny flower garden, some small lakes and a even a nice playground for the kids. Joe's Garage is a cute/yummy restaurant right off the Park and just beyond that is the Basilica. It's America's oldest Basilica and it's really very beautiful.

BTW- Everyone's right about Let It Be. It's the one record shop you have check out. If you're into dance music vinyl, check out the Dance Shop downstairs.
