Hearing Prince songs that weren't hits in strange places...

So the other day I was dropping off a friend at the airport. We got there a bit early, so we decided to stop for some McDonald's breakfast.

And what did I hear as soon as I walked through the doors? "One" from the first Madhouse album. eek

I couldn't believe it.

Another weird one was at a local basketball tournament called Gus Macker.

I heard "Let's Pretend We're Married" unedited in its full glory being blasted out of speakers that covered the entire tournament. omg

This wouldn't be so uncomfortable if there weren't like a million kids running around. lol

And maybe the most unusual yet...

"Sexy MF" in a country bar. Priceless.

What weird juxtapositions of Prince songs in unusual settings have you experienced?

I think Prince is finally startin' to get some recognition.

Slightly off topic, but we had a big bash Saturday, and of course I'M the ONLY fam.....anyways, I had AOL all Prince on, and almost EVERYBODY commented one way or the other, but most people were like, dayum, I didn't realize Prince had so much greaat material!!!

Hopefully, I made some new fams!

I'm listening to WEEI sports radio in Boston now, and there's an auto-store ad read by Michael Holly, the radio host, over an instrumental loop from The Ballad Of Dorothy Parker!!! Someone call Londell's replacement!

The 2 strangest for me.....

Going to the local Carniceria (Mexican Meat shop) and 200 Balloons is blaring out of the speakers. I was so confused lol

At a leather bar, in the middle of a bunch of hardcore rock songs.....the DJ dropped MOUNTAINS!. I fainted with joy right in the middle of a buch of leatherdudes lol

OH SHIT!!! How can I forget about Martika!!!!

I was at an adult bookstore stocking up on lube and stuff and I was checking out the vids and Martika's Toy Soldiers came on and right in the middle of the song this mohawked dude flung the stock door open and at the top of his lungs started to sing that shit. It was so fuckin cabaret and broadway and drag camp!! I wish yall could have seen the looks on the faces of the other patrons. That shit was so fuckin classic falloff

"When the lights go down" at a play in Chicago about the black upper class. My sister and I were probably the only people who knew the song and we were JAMMING to it. They played the intro just up to the vocals, the set was dark and the sound system was so nice all we needed was for Prince to walk out and start singing.

About ten years ago I was in an all night supermarket at around midnight. It was a big place and I think I was just about the only customer. All of a sudden "Pink Cashmire" comes on over the PA. I took it as a sign from Prince to me that I had chosen the right brand of cereal and spent the next few minutes singing along and throwing in a few lame Prince dance moves as I grooved on down the aisles with the goofiest of goofy grins on my face.

There's this restaurant about 15 miles north of where I live in a little port town that has the jukebox that can access an internet database. They have like 150 Prince songs in there and I like to drop some obscure shit like "All The Critics Love You In NY" and "Annie Christian". mr.green

Well it is funny because one of the strangest places I ever heard a Prince song was on the RADIO! lol I was flipping the dial and hit a station that was playing some really great music and A-U-T-O-matic was played in it's entirety and I knew how absolutely impossible it was to be hearing such a Prince song on the radio that I was so confused and couldn't figure out what song it was lol I was that in shock.

I've been listening to that station ever since biggrin

It never gets old, does it?

I was playing lots of Bjork one day and the barmaid was like "Who is this?". I told her. She said, "Is it some kind of spiritual or hymn or somethin'?" And I was like, "No. Well, kinda. I guess so. She's Icelandic." lol

I remember hearing "Le Grind" on Detroit radio in '93 and being blown away by the balls of the DJ to play it.
