I have recently returned to my love of Prince after being AWOL between D & P and 3121.

Therefore, can anyone let me know what they consider to be "vital listening", "worth checking out" or, "must avoid," during this period so that I can fill in the gaps in my record collection.

As usual there are also many side-projects and related artists releases during this time - As a starter you might also be interested in the 3 NPG albums, which feature Prince heavily as writer, producer and performer.

As for essential releases, depends on your tastes, but I'd pick up:

a) Everything if you're a nut
b) Come, Gold, The Black Album, Emancipation, Crystal Ball, The Rainbow Children, Musicology if you want the highlights - it was a patchy period in many people's opinion.
