The Lovesexy Tour

I remember when I was about 4 or 5 years old, my parents took me to see the Lovesexy Tour and I was the happiest kid on Saulk Trails!!! Flash Foward to 2002. Is it just me or was the Lovesexy Tour a little hokey??? I was downloading a couple of tracks from the tour, and there's something about it that seems a little cheesy. Kind of like an overproduced Broadway musical.

Am I the only person that thinks this, or am I just deaf, dumb, and blind???

You are Deaf,Dumb and Blind that was a wonderful tour . The Presentation was Supurb on that. Prince's dancing, guitar work and choice of songs and wardrobe was Excellent. Shelia's drum work and likewise the vocal and horn section was tight and right on. Best fucking tour my friend. Where have you been? Jupiter or Mars? And how long since the Air-craft landed?

You were 4 or 5 then? lol

I absolutely LOVED the Lovesexy tour. Prince played in the round and it was fantastic! He is the only artist I have ever seen that had that stage setup.

Everything about it was great; the music, the sets, the costumes, and CAT!

If people thought the purple rain tour was the shit...they didn't know jack.

Saw 2 LA, 4 NY , PA and CT shows. And
there'll never be another tour like that.

The Lovesexy tour was fun, and yes, it was overproduced at the same time. It was like a big Broadway spectacular, and Prince had the music to back it up. There were too many medleys, though, to call it "the shit".

The best tour of all was the "Sign O The Times" tour by far. Though he didn't tour the US officially, I was one of the lucky few to see him at the Country Club in the SF valley the night he performed the title track at the MTV awards. I think it was '86 or so. That was a show of all shows for me! Started two hours late, and I could not have cared less. He played for over two hours and had the entire celebrity studded audience in seventh heaven for the entire time. He was jovial, loose and played the shit out of every song they played. He sort of took requests in that he would fit the lyrics of what ever song was yelled out into the current song he was playing (i.e., he played "It", but using "Housequake" lyrics!) He made Huey Lewis and Chaka sing back up on "Forever in My Life" and made the guitar scream until almost 5 AM.

The saddest thing of the night, though, was that Sly Stone was turned away at the door because the kid manning the door was unaware of who he was! People in line tried to tell him, but he was not having it. The irony of all irony was that Prince played "Everyday People" as part of the show!!

I was 18 when I saw the Lovesexy Tour in Oakland in November '88. It was an INCREDIBLE experience which still gets me excited when I think of it. There were a lot of melodies where the music moved fast and one song flowed into another, and it was all pretty much done with a positive vibe (especially the 2nd half). And I really dug the sincerity of his spiritual speeches and songs. I could go on and on and on about it, but I'll be brief and just say it was a life-changing EXPERIENCE!! I'm so glad he decided to tour the USA that year despite taking some losses -- the "message" was important, and he knew it.

And the melodies were a GOOD thing because he had played many old songs I'd never heard him play before (Erotic City, Head, Jack U Off, Sister, I Wanna Be Your Lover, Controversy, When You Were Mine) and some songs off of the unreleased Black Album. He also did a beautiful piano medley (When 2 R In Love, Venus De Milo, Starfish and Coffee, Raspberry Beret, Condition of The Heart, Strange Relationship). And he played around with Cat, Sheila, and Boni among a round stage filled with a car, a swingset, a basketball hoop, pillars, his band, and various other obstacles. He got the audience involved several times ("say Yes!"), made several speeches ("Cross the Line"), acted out some parts, and seemed to have tons of fun running and dancing all over the place. Also the surround sound was great -- the way the speakers were hung all over the place and the show was filled with many sound effects. I would have to agree with others here that it was his best tour ever (especially in the USA).

I was listening to the new soundboard Nagoya CD today.

I saw SOTT and Lovesexy shows a dozen times, and the Lovesexy show was THE best show of the 80s!

I just read in the paper that KORN is playing in the round on their new tour.

I don't know a thing about KORN but this post reminded me of that.

I saw it 2 times - you can see the young "sweet 17" wink CV during the (non credited) short part of "A Love Bizarre"...
at the Dortmund Show, the "famous one" of which were made a video in 2 parts,
Really amazing - but my all time fave will always be the "Sign 'o' the Times"-Tour...

I have the videotape and looking at it now it is a bit Broadway/Vegas, but at the time it was unbelievable. I'll never forget the T-bird circling the stage and Prince Sheila E and Cat get out and dance to Erotic City and Escape and this was just to start the show! I saw the show twice. I always looked for the crew wheeling out Prince to the stage in a little wardrobe crate trying to keep it secret. He busted his ass to develop and put on this tour. It was near perfect although looking back I think there may have been too many medleys.

The Lovesexy concert was my 1st Prince show. It had so much going on, it was hard to figure out what to look at sometimes. It was great!
I wish they would release it on DVD. cry
