i wasn't expecting that we would get the cd like the people who attended the celebration, but i had assumed that he would have at least made it a download, so that the rest of us would have an opportunity to hear it... If they were reasonable people, we would, but I guess that is also the answer to your question. I am a member who hasn't been to the Celebration and I have the Days Of Wild CD. I just had to pay $30 to get it. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Cloud9 - I am sure Prince is getting tired of getting used by the music industry (whether it was a contract agreement or not..) and he has no idea how you intended to use those downloads. It's a standard legal procedure to send out a letter like that when he feels that a profiteer is at large. Also, he is trying to keep the exclusitivity of the club intact. AND the cd was for attendees of the Celebration only (at least for now...) So what you need to do is write a letter back and express your feelings through that channel.
Prince does care about what we think. But he's also a businessman. Cheers!

Not really. You know what kind of a pain in the ass it can be to have all your rarities collections in identical looking CD-Rs? It's like "I'd like to listen to my Rebels sessions now, where is it? Amidst all these couple of hundred identical looking jewel cases?"

I got a copy of the DOW single on CDR for free, too. I'm an NPGMC member, but I wasn't at the celebration. I'm not going to pay $30 to $50 for "limited edition" Prince singles on eBay.
It was the same deal with the Hit 'n Run singles. I couldn't get the music through official channels, so I just got all 3 of the singles on one bootleg for $10. And you're way late if you're just now figuring out that Prince and his Paisley Power Tripping employees are assholes.

KeithyT said: Oh, I see. The whole legal side to Prince's World is the only real bad vibe I get.
I was a subscriber to The Interactive Experience (a UK fanzine) a few years ago. I did not have an internet connection at this time and it was invaluable to me in keeping up with what was happening in the world of Prince. I had just renewed my annual subscription (£15 I think) when Prince's lawyers came down like a ton of bricks on people like Uptown, The Interactive Experience and their assoc. websites for unauthorised use of the o+> symbol and discussion of bootleg recordings etc. I did not receive any more fanzines. I decided not to chase for the money as I thought they would need it more than me. This left me very disillusioned about Prince (or his legal representatives). From this episode it seems they are still pretty strict on what is and isn't allowed. Interactive Experience SOLD bootlegs though. hahahaha

It's over-rated anyways, Days of Wild without swearing just doesn't have the same passion. File sharing will never stop. It's like trying to stop mosquitos from biting you in MN in the summer--impossible

The only thing that really bothers me about this whole incident is the misunderstanding that comes with it.
As the days of the wild track was given away at the cellebration, I thought it was free. If I had known that I was violating contracts, I never would have posted the mp3 in the first place & I hate the fact that this might make me out to be a file sharing villan. In summary, the misunderstanding of my intentions. I would never knowingly violate a contract, NPGMC or Prince. Anyways all, Im glad we were able to talk about this & ya'll set my mind at ease a bit. I let my imagination get away with me & imagined a huge court case against my site over this little mistake. It seems NPGMC realise I made a mistake & so do I. All is well.

I wouldnt know what to say that wouldnt cause them to take legal action. Cant lose my website, its cost me a fortune to keep it there & Ive worked hard & long on it for 9 months, not even Prince can take that away from me. What should I say? I feel ya...but dont even worry bout it, just dont share any Prince stuff in a public fourm... its his stuff so i guess he can do what he wants with his stuff...its most likely not him sayin that stuff anyways... hes got his people trained well... hell hes got me trained too, I ALWAYS forget my camera when Im going to a non Prince show...everybody gettin pics but me anyways...besides u got some real good stuff to share of urself and ur real young too...maybe one day when ur fampus and in ur 30s U can call up Prince and ask him to come jam with u...just like he did with Larry the music u make is awesome...Im really feeling it P luv

KeithyT said: Its a toughie. You uploaded something that was given away free at the Celebration. In some ways you were just "doing the work".
thecloud9mission said: Anyways, I just emailed back to appologise & explain that I have never been a member of NPGMC (so have read no contracts) & so was unaware that this particular song was illegal to share as I got it from a file sharer in the first place & had heard that Prince gave it away free at the celly anyway.
It is an interpretation that it was given away for free: one could also argue people paid $250 for it and the concerts were for free... More important though, the song is protected by a copyright. No matter whether it was given away for free or not, with the copyright the song cannot be distributed or reproduced without consent of NPG. If you do not understand this... stay out of the kitchen. Music cannot be for free, unless your bills do not depend on selling some stuff. I do not go to the office every day and share my talents and intelligence with my boss for nothing and I am sure there are not many here who work for free... Surprises me though that so many think Prince has to share his music for free with us!? I am glad Cloud Mission 9 has been able to resolve it with MPGMC though!

CalhounSq said: I don't understand why you're so upset, Lewis. Isn't it in the NPGMC "contract" or whatever that we're not to share files from them...
Two things, firstly, the song was not avaliable as a shared file for download through the NPGMC. Secondly, Prince hates "CONtracts" so why should we abide by his. Is it not the pot calling the kettle black? http://www.goldiesparade.co.uk/ - Prince discography, tour history, news and more.
