I don't understand why you're so upset, Lewis. Isn't it in the NPGMC "contract" or whatever that we're not to share files from them? Why are you surprised that they asked/told you to stop??

It's one thing to make CD's for friends, quite another to put it on a site for anyone around the world to take. So what Prince gave the song away for free @ the Celebration - it's HIS to give away. Okay, he supports file sharing - but maybe he'd prefer his stuff to be d/l'ed once it's been officially released.

Who knows his philosopy on file sharing??? What does it matter? Bottom line is don't YOU be the one giving his shit away online. And if you were so dead-set on your plan, you should have emailed your friends privately instead of putting up a friggin' ad.

You said yourself that "it was a pretty stupid idea", but now you wanna call Prince an asshole over something you did???

You know, Lewis. It's hard to imagine a valid legal case on this as the owner of the copyrights (Prince) has in fact CONDONED sharing of his own works (fuck the NPGMC contract he has spoken otherwise in public). It's the same thing when police officers have tried arrest drug users to buy selling them drugs under disguise. Agitating to crime is, at least inside EC, totally unconstitutional. Of course he never signed under anything and it's still illegal, but it's hard to see anything too drastic a punishment cast upon you if it would somehow end up in that situation.

Anyways, I just emailed back to appologise & explain that I have never been a member of NPGMC (so have read no contracts) & so was unaware that this particular song was illegal to share as I got it from a file sharer in the first place & had heard that Prince gave it away free at the celly anyway.

They seemed cool & sent me a copy of the contract & said in future dont let it happen again.

Nuff said.

i wasn't expecting that we would get the cd like the people who attended the celebration, but i had assumed that he would have at least made it a download, so that the rest of us would have an opportunity to hear it...
