what is with the cheesy and uber-lame namedropping?

it smells desperate to me when i read an email from a fansite i belong to telling me about all the celebrities in attendance at a concert yet the email tells me nothing about the actual performance.

i'm not wowed by celebrities. most of 'em don't have a single cell in their brains...just because they happen to have made it big (or worse yet, have the luck of being born into a rich family) doesn't make them interesting. lol

am i the only person who thinks this whole letter addressed to prince but bragging about all the celebs in attendance business is corny?

the show sounds like it was pretty cool! while npgmc is only talking about names, i've heard about the actual concert from fans.

I think it is a promotional tool - setting up the idea that seeing Prince live is rare and exclusive. The world seems to be obsessed with celebrity these days, these reports assume we are all envious of these celebs getting into such parties, so when general tickets come on sale there is a mad rush for them - us wanting to be part of that exclusive crowd.

But, yeah, we get the message now - we're not worthy!

Violet Brown's concert reports are bar none the worst I've ever read, and I've read a lot.

What does everybody mean by that?

Greil Marcus also refered to it in his ONE LINE review of 3121 in Andy Warhol's Interview Magazine by saying something like; Prince's version of [sumthing about Hefner]. Just that...

It describes a passage of time: once he was fresh and innovative and had hunger, drive and desire. As he's aged he's gotten kinda complacent and lost the fire. Dare I say that maybe a little insecurity has entered his psyche. It's not being overly critical it's just a fact that comes with age.

We'll never see the prince of old again - those electric, innovating, passionate years of creativity are now a thing of the past. He's moved on, aged, 'matured'.
He's now all about throwing the celebrity parties. He's created his own playboy mansion-like pad, where entertaining celebrities and being surrounded by hot young fluff (re:twins) are his necessity as he faces his older years and realises his prime has past him.

While still super-talented and obviously a hell of a lot more funky than The Hef, the similarities are obvious - he's moving into that next stage and The Hef is obviously an influence... (hell he's even starting to adopt The Hef dress sense, if still a little more pimp).

No male can blame him for this, in fact I'm sure he'll get props for it, but the simple fact is, in the last year or two a definate change has taken place. Worldwide tours will no longer hold the pull they once did.

Exclusive clicky little parties for Paris, the celebrity in-crowd and hot young LA-bunnies are the direction this is all going in... Next step will be to build a grotto - for the bunnies/twins to entertain the celebrities in....

I like what you've written. Gotta say though, what a missed opportunity to buck the whole concept that life is over at 25.

Interesting observation. Like Nothingbutjoy said, somehow I expected Prince of all people to handle the whole mid life thing a little differently.

The Hef years, huh? Ya really think so?
Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.
