Sign could have been different, but I can't agree with him on a couple points

Last Heart. That song is incredibly ordinary to me. No great loss. I prefer Slow Love & It & Forever in My Life & Starfish & Coffee.

Then to leave off the Cross & Adore? Nope, no way.

You're right, it is interesting reading. Intelligent reviews - a rare thing indeed ( take note black-rimmed-glasses wearing Dylan-worshipping tossers at Rolling Stone). Thanks for the post.

"In the mid to late 1980s, Prince had an irksome tendency to obstruct his funkier, blacker music. Down & dirty, rhythmically driven songs like “Irresistible Bitch” and “Erotic City” were left off 1999 and Purple Rain; 1986’s Camille, his funkiest and dirtiest album since 1981’s Dirty Mind, was shelved; and a year later, the notorious Black Album met a similar fate. Was this due to the demands of his growing Caucasian fan base or simply to win the favor of his white girlfriends?"

that lovesexy review is so in-depth it only mentions one song. way to go reviewer person

and about the excerpt quoted above, erotic city was recorded after purple rain was completed. and 1999 was hardly short on "down n dirty rhythmically driven" stuff. silly
