the Batman Soundtrack

I was reading an old review of this lp and the guy who wrote it stated that none of the songs on the soundtrack were in the movie.Well I guess this guy didn't see the movie. The Future is played during the opening scene.Vicki Waiting(an extended version no less) and Electric Chair is played during the casino scene and who can forget the Partyman and Trust scenes. Not to mention Scandelous playing during the closing credits.has anyone else read any of the reviews for the lp?has other ones stated the same nonsense?

I think 6 minutes of the Prince material was on the movie. All the rest was Danny Elfman's work. Elfman wasn't happy with the fact the he spent so much time scoring the movie, only to have Prince show up and in a matter of 2 months or less, produce create material that would be billed as the "official soundtrack".

I doubt whether Elfman would have been unduly worried about that. He still got paid I guess.

Princes record was kind of a 'Songs written for and inspired by...' type of album. It's not a record I particularly care for. Vicki Waiting, The Future and Partyman excepted.

He was pretty agitated about it actually. He gave a couple of interviews blasting the fact that Prince’s album was being given that title. I believe some concession was made to Elfman after all was said and done. But I saw a clip of one of his interviews and he wasn’t exactly pleased about the whole affair.

I spose calling Princes album the 'Soundtrack' woulda pissed Danny Elfman off thinking about it. My idea of 'Songs written for and inspired by' might have been more diplomatic nod

I like your profile pic by the way pinkgirl!! batting eyes

Elfman didnt do a soundtrack he did a SCORE. his SCORE was also released.

every popular movie out there has a soundtrack made up of songs, and all composers put out their scores.

If he was agitated thats just silly. of course a pop soundtrack will outshine classical background score.

of all of the simpsons albums put out, you think anyone wants Elfman's theme which plays cinsistently 5 times a day already? No we want "Do The Bartman" and to a lesser extent "Deep Deep Trouble"

**yes quite often, but not from critics but from friends, they would say, I didn't know that song was from Batman, than I point it out, remember "Trust" from the Parade Scene, "PartyMan" in etc.

On a side a note, back in the day, when I had a mixer, I actually mixed Elfman's Batman theme and created a long intro for "Batdance", come to think of it I messed with all the tracks and fused it with Elfman's score, I wish I kept that tape.

Was that ever made available on a maxi-single? I seem to remember hearing some really tasty guitar that wasn't on the album version. I could be wrong...I haven't seen the movie since 1991.

he shouldnt worry , as it turns out Danny Elfmans music is probably more widely
played around the world than Prince's nowadays , he does the music for a lot of
huge films ( pretty much everything Tim Burton releases ) and TV shows like
Desperate Housewives etc ....he must be laughing all the way to the bank

I don't think the extended version was released. I hope I'm wrong since I haven't heard it yet.

i think what annoyed elfman was the fact that his score was not available for purchase (or included w/ the prince album) at the same time...(which is normally the case)...the score was released a month or so after the film came out...

at that time, song soundtracks (ie, flashdance, footloose, topgun, beverly hills cops) were the norm...
