Again. I am shocked at some of these statements about Liberace. He won many a ladies heart and was considered very good looking in his day. nod

oh gawd yes...the ladies loved them some liberace, simply because he was such a prettyman. nod

I think they loved him in a similar way they love Clay Gaykien. He's cute, can sing, very wholesome (though I've seen Liberace get pervy) and has presence.

He was on Oprah just a week or two before he died. He did not look well at all. Very sad.

No way, Prince has a lot more talent than that sneering queen ever did. Prince is not even on the same planet as the drugged up tragic queen Liberace was.

actually, liberace was a pretty amazing musician and a great entertainer. how else do you think he got to coast through his life dressing and acting the way he did, and maintaining the illusion (as it were) that he wasn't gay when everyone knew damn well that he was?

Lyrically Prince has always been something of a hedonist and, with the odd flirtations with politics (clumsy) and religion (impenetrable, as he doesn't seem to understand what he believes anyway) aside, his raison d'etre (is that right?) is to PARTAY like it's... whenever.

His move to VEGAS is entirely understandable. That's where he belongs. The cliche that he has evolved into fits nicely in Sin City. He IS an old-scraggly-head and can play 'like he used to' for all he's worth. He's now, no longer relevant, but a massive talent who's reason is to entertain - which he readily does.

Prince is Liberace.

I'll try and be nice.....you need your ass whooped for mentioning Prince in the same paragraph with Liberace.....

If it depended on me, Prince would go in the direction of Bowie...an underground icon. But Prince sometimes is so insecure...he is so fascinated by money, stardom, media...if he doesn´t take care, there are big chances of him being a Vegas act...what a shame...

Prince has never been an alternative artist, unlike all the guff about him being punk/funk and the like. Hell, that only lasted about a year, until Prince noticed that having hits was what he really wanted. Why do you think Controversy was not another Dirty Mind? Prince, from the beginning always wanted to be loved and played on the radio. Sure, he wants musical respect, but by now he already has that. All he has now is to use his name to make a buck. He no longer has anything to prove, so this is the avenue that he has chosen.

And a fine avenue it is, 2freaky. I simply think that this is the natural setting for such a flamboyant and, essentially, 'live' 'entertainer'. The Liberace thing is, again in my opinion, based on the hedonism that pervades his music... still at 48 (which bodes well for me! For all of us!)

- Yes, it´s true. But, although he never was THAT alternative, he always had a strong ´freak´ side (not only visually, but musically). In the 80s he used to do HIS music and sometimes, hits happened. I mean, a pop artist like Madonna or Mariah Carey would never record something like ´Annie Christian´, ´Tambourine´, or ´I wonder U´. He was very ´rebel´ to record Around the world in a Day right after Purple Rain because both sound very different. And SOTT and Lovesexy? Even in the 90s...the Act Tour playing no hits in small clubs...
I remember I found an underground magazine from 88 and the news section was talking about Lovesexy.

Back then, he was compared with Bowie also, because both could be pop and alternative at the same time. Today, they chose different avenues. Bowie is seen as an alternative icon, while Prince seems desperate for attention/money on some albums and is seen as a ´pop singer´ by many.

Because Vegas is the home of the 'big-smile' in entertainment and that, so it seems, is what Prince craves. He enjoys the attention, enjoys the adulation and gives good show... Vegas is his home from home. The Liberace connection? See the nihilism/hedonism comment from earlier in the thread.

Prince is Liberace .

Dude , you are focussing WAAAAY 2 much on 1 performance-area .
You have NO idea and you're CLUELESS what ticket-sales will do when he's gonna tour Europe or other worldparts .
Where do you get the NERVE to put him in that narrowminded box question exclaim
Are you the expert-supreme or whatever ? ... gimme a freakin break lol
His immensive talent to improvise everytime when he plays live is 1 of a kind , hense , let alone his huge amount and potent of composing , and yet you come with these lame excuses like "old-scraggly-head" ?! . Simply laughable . Sorry to break these hard relevant facts to you .

Liberace's final stage performance was at Radio City Music Hall in New York City on November 2, 1986. He died of complications related to AIDS at the age of 67 on February 4, 1987 at his winter house in Palm Springs, California. His obvious weight loss in the months prior to his death was attributed to a "watermelon diet" by his longtime and steadfast manager Seymour Heller. But he had been in ill health since 1985 with other health problems including emphysema from his daily smoking off-stage, as well as heart and liver troubles. How and exactly when he contracted AIDS will probably never be determined for Liberace vehemently denied to the end that he had AIDS, and that he was a homosexual. He is interred in Forest Lawn - Hollywood Hills Cemetery in Los Angeles

His returns in Europe have fallen off, as he plays there much less regularly than he did in his heyday. When he last played in the UK he played at the Hammersmith Apollo; a wonderful venue to see him in as it isn't that big. I reckon that if and when the tour goes to Europe he'll play this or similar sized venues... though I would love him to prove me wrong.

What 'narrow-minded box'? I think that the critique of his lyrics was quite fair and I point out that he is a spectacular live performer.

I'm not 'the expert supreme' or anything, just experssing an opinion, that's all.

Don't quite get what is meant by 'old scrggly head' as an 'excuse'. I'm not excusing anything, I'm saying that Prince is as good live as he ever was and should focus on that in the 'home of entertainment'. I honestly believe that Pricne has become something of a cliche (disagree at will) and, as such, he is suited that the Vegas environment. But, hell, I love Vegas. I can't wait to enhance my Vegas experience by seeing him play there... I can think of no better place.
