What exactly do you consider the "older music" as opposed to the "new stuff"?

The "old Prince" is usually mentioned as the beginning to the SOTT/Lovesexy era. Sometimes it gets more concentrated as the Dirty Mind era to the Purple Rain phenomena. What do you consider the Diamonds and Pearls or symbol eras? Where do you consider the start of the "newer stuff"? Rainbow Children? Rave?

Well, we used to be able to say 80s was the old stuff and 90s was the new stuff, but that divide is starting to fray a bit now we're halfway through the next decade.

I'd cut it up like this:

For You - Lovesexy = Golden period
Batman - end of WB era = Lesser, but still great
Emancipation - Rave = The decline
TRC - 3121 = The (gradual) rise

Just my opinion.

Diamonds & Pearls to me represents when we "lost" the old Prince. He's still great, but that's when things changed for me.
