I know I am old (47) but I don't get the adulation for a DJ. All she does is play songs on a record player.
That's pretty easy to do.

That's pretty easy to do. Trust me.....it's FAR from easy. I knew a cat from NY that could spin 3 technic 1200's at once. That was craziest sh*T I even seen. He never missed a beat either. Ez? No chance.

I saw DJ Rashida in Miami and as beautiful as she is, I hate to say it but all I saw her do was, move a bunch controls, put a record on, do that rewind/scratch move, then take the record off and so on and so forth. The problem is I didn't hear any "results" or mixing from what she was doing. I swear all I heard was a record being played after the next, something anybody can do. There was no blending, mixing, changeup, rewind, scratch, things that DJs do. She even played a reggae song and I was waiting for the "RE RE WA" move on the turntable and---nothing. The record came towards the end and she put on a techno song. I'm not saying its easy, but if you are going to put yourself out there as a DJ, you need to do some "DJing". However to be fair that was the only time I saw her, so I don't want to say that she's bad. Maybe when she plays clubs shes much much better.

No problem, Finess. I started DJ'ing in 1977. I remember my first Radio Shack mixing board - the coolest thing ever made. I would mix two completely different songs to make one. I'd mix in a second song during the first's instrumental break, then break the first song back (at the same place) when the second song ended. I know how to keep a beat. I made tapes of my mixes - 8-track tapes, not many had cassettes then - and some of the basketball players from college took them back home to New York City over the summer, then came back asking for more. I've been there and done that. And it isn't hard. I don't get why people think DJs are any big deal. I'm not saying they're worthless; it's just not much of a skill. Anyone can play popular songs.

Not that I didn't like the songs she played. I did. But since it was the same all 3 nights, she could have recorded her first night and just played it over. She looked great, no doubt. And it looked like she had nice equipment. Perhaps she is new? I don't know but it was just an observation.

That's pretty easy to do. Trust me....I have been doing it for 20 years....It is not as easy as it looks. "Love is like peeing in your pants, everyone sees it but only you feel its warmth"
