I know it doesn't feel like it at all, but 1987 is indeed pretty close to 20 years ago now! [Edited 5/30/06 14:33pm]

I love reading the music reviews in the little Guardian magazine on a Saturday, they're always spot on, and full of sharp/cruel put-downs.

I still cannot believe so many orgers (up there) think Fury is a crap tune ?!!!!
What is silly about his guitar playing ? What is mediocre about this tune ? For fuck sake, I would be more humble if i belonged to a country where the definition of greatness is nowadays Robbie Williams. " Je serai toujours de retour bande de mods à la con de mes deux " Moi - 2007

I haven't studied the lyrics, but I wouldn't call them phoned in by the sound of them.
At least they sound like they're about something. Many of his recent songs basically are saying: "I'm so funky" "This is the jam" "NPG rules" "Where the party's at" And the keyboards aren't the same as 1999. My Legacy

This review is a load of crap!`Fury`is an awesome track that i cant wait 2 hear live. The version on `SNL`was his best TV performance in years.
Newspapers are so fickle. The Observer`s (Sunday Guardian) Music Monthly magazine had Prince on the cover a few months ago hailing`the return of a pop genius`!! ----- `LADY CAB DRIVER,CAN U TAKE ME 4 A RIDE? I DONT KNOW WHERE I`M GOING CAUSE I DONT KNOW WHERE I`VE BEEN.JUST PUT YOUR FOOT ON THE GAS & LET`S DRIVE!` O+>

I agree, but ONLY to a point..."Fury" as a recorded track suffers from its too-subdued production..But the "shaving mirror" comments seem more about dropping a funny than making a real point....As for the song "Fury" itself, people have heard how great the song comes off live enough to know that at its core, it's a good "Prince" song, nothing more, nothing less...It's far from being mediocre...And yeah...it is funny how a publication can proclaim the second-coming of an artist on their cover and then turn around and shit on him/her...Very interesting....

You can request the Fury video in the Uk on The Box channel now , its no.144,
I know as I just saw it played , not a huge fan of the song but cool to see it on TV as opposed to the net for a change Check out Chocadelica , updated with Lotusflow3r and MPLSound album lyrics April 2nd 2009 :

Yeah, the song sounds derivative of 1960s rock. The lyrics try to mask their banality by being cryptic. The mix is watered-down, and the guitar playing is uninspired.
The only upside is seeing him add a bit more energy to it in live performances. It's a far cry from, say, ICNTTPOYM.

THANKYOU! I am so glad I'm not the only one who dislikes Robbie Williams. I have ever since his debut; a goddawful cover of George Michael's 'Freedom 90' (George Michael is one of my three favourite artists). Robbie Williams is a talentless muppet.

Did you know, all the reviews you've ever read are written by the same guy? He works for all the newspapers and magazines in the world, writing reviews that'll please each respective readership. He's a raving hypocrite, but very well-paid.

And WTF are you trying to imply there? It wasnt our version of Pop Idol that broke all voting records and even far exceeded the turnout for a general election. And you think the state of our music is in trouble! Perhaps you should be more humble about your views on the UK... Just because a review doesnt go your way, doesnt mean you have to lamblast (quite innacurately and without basis) the whole country it was written in. The UK has had a BIG part to play in shaping modern music, and always will in the future. It aint all down to America y'know! Just to add, I dont agree with the review either. To put a balance to things, the Sun or teh Evening Standard (cant remember which) said something along the lines of "when Prince is good he is brilliant! Rip-roaring guitar and incredible keyboard riffs overlaid with Henrix-esqu vocals. 5/5". But what do we Brits know eh?

So, The Guardian (left-wing, literary, artistic) thinks it's crap, and The Sun (right-wing, football-loving, sexist) thinks it's ace.
One of them is right. Can you guess which?

One of them is right. Can you guess which? Actually I think it was the Evening Standard (regional, sit-on-the-fence, slightly Tory, football-illiterate, PC mad)...

what gets me is that a lot of you still dont get it, P is at a point in his career.....Like Stevie.....Like Miles.....whereas....what does he have left 2 prove 2 any of us? The fact of the matter is.....HE IS STILL DOING HIS OWN THING almost 30 years later. Who would have thought that after the release of "For You" He would be inducted into the ROCK n ROLL Hall of Fame?
All I hear from you so called FANS is a lot of whinning and complaining about the music. Now dont get me wrong Im really not that much into "3121" but I not going to waste my time giving reasons as to why I'm not into it, Some releases you feel more than others and my rantings would be equal to a mindless music critic and if you really think about it Music Critcis seem to have more fun displaying thier use of "BIG WORDS" than describing thier opinion about a certain recording artist. Read a review and youll find out that you're more confused about the review after you've read it Bottom line is this.....Music Journalists are people who are paid for their opinion....and we all know that "OPINIONS" are like "ASSHOLES" cuz everybody has one

Agree with this also. He's written some great lyrics over the years but there's been more than one occassion where lesser lyrics are forgiven due to the musicianship and energy on the song. That happened live on SNL with Fury but not on the cd; not by any stretch of the imagination. No hard feelings.
