Comedians Who Influenced Prince

It doesn't take a math professor to know that Prince is one comic loon in his own right(The chic in the Time's The Walk, ol' man's jive talkin' in Cho-Co-Late!, Movie Star, Adore and many proofs that could be found through his music not to mention his Under The Cherry Moon flick and some of his interviews such as MTV circa 1986).

But I can't help but to hear/see these 2 in his sense of humor,,,

Which comedians does he echo in your opinion?

lol You are so right! The general public sees him as some werid, quiet, shy guy but I think his funny, crazy, quirky sense of humor is evident in his music and films. He really strikes me as a fun, crazy kinda guy if he feels comfortable around you. I think I remember him saying he liked Eddie Murphy, Richard Pryor, Chris Rock and Dave Chapelle.

Hahah really? That's funny. I was watching an old preformance of Prince's once with him in '83 singing "Do me baby" and just his rendition of the song had my boyfriend laughing out loud. My bf was like "Omg he sounds just like Murphy in coming to America! Sexual chocolate!" lol

I know he likes Woody Allen.

Also, Muhammed Ali isn't a comedian, but he could have been if he wanted to, and he influenced some the the Time's comedy.

Nice thread, by the way. I would have said everyone already mentioned. Ya'll ever notice the theme to "Sanford and Son" and a certain musical section in the song "Diamonds and Pearl"?

Didn't Prince sample the line from the late Robin Harris' routine - the part where he says "you don't understand. I ain't scared of you motherf*krs".
What song was this sampled on? Or was that Bernie Mac? hmmmm

Some of his voices on the Exodus album sound alot like Pryor too. Maybe he liked Richard back in the day.
