Have You Ever Made Yourself Like A Prince Song?

Have You Ever Made Yourself Like A Prince Song? Seriously. All of us have listened to songs on the radio and the first time we heard them we couldn't stand them. But because every time you turned on the radio the song was playing you eventually became tolerant of it. Then after a while you found yourself singing the lyrics. Then even later you found yourself liking the song. Of course I know this is how radio pushes music into the minds of the masses, but I'm talking about us doing this to ourselves.

Example, you buy a Prince CD and a song comes on that just hit's you all wrong and you push the skip button. After a while you don't push the skip button because you're lazy or really want to give the song another shot. You still don't like it but you start just letting it play so the album can flow. Pretty soon you find yourself getting into the song you used to skip.

I've done this several times and I admit that I can listen to all of Prince albums without skipping a song with the exception of one. That is BATMAN and the song is THE ARMS OF ORION. No matter how many times I try to give that song another shot I just can't take it.

So is this just normal? Am I like the rest of the masses? Or am I making myself like songs just because I want to like them cause I like Prince? These are the questions that go through mind. Tell me what you think.

Oh yeah, I'm listening to ONA right now and I must admit that I'm digging it a lot more. Maybe it's because I'm at work. Not sure. I think it's the first time I've listened to it in a totally relaxed atmosphere with nothing on my mind. My job is not normally a relaxed atmosphere, but today it is.

I agree about "arms of orion" still it = trash 2 me.
I go back every once in a while 2 "Symbol", "D&P" and "Gold" and although there R some GREAT cuts on those, I still can't bring myself 2 like most of the other stuff.

I try to appreciate "Solo" as some profound, sonically experimental take on depression but I just don't like it.

Luckily there aren't many Prince tracks other than some outtakes (Bar "Little Pill" now) that don't speak to me on some level.

I've tried with Graffiti Bridge (the song) but I just wasn't feelin' it.

Not everything that Prince glitters is gold. Once in a while he'll drop a stinker.

Still it's nice to know, when our bodies wear out, we can get another

I forgot about "Solo". I also skip that one and felt the same way. Maybe I should open myself up and be open minded. I just can't feel it, but my wife loves it. I can't figure that one out.

I guess I'm too much of a MUSIC fan to be totally intolerant to a song. I'm a Musician before I'm fan of music so I see music for more than just "auditory" stimulation. I here soo much more than the average person. I'm sure some of you can relate. Being a musician in a band, hearing each individual part of a song, rehearsed over and over, actually knowing the person that wrote the song and what life event spawned the creation of the song. Experiencing all those things take your appreciation of music to a higher level.

My friends come to me and ask me, "Shaun, what do you think of this song?" They know that if I think it's bad, it must be really bad!

Call me an ass-kisser, but Prince just hasn't done that to me yet, I haven't heard all of his music, none of us have. But I can't think of a Prince song, that just totally sucked.

I've tried to digest Rainbow Children but I just can't gel with any of the songs.
