old friends 4 sale is magnificent. I still prefer the original version off charade which has more personal lyrics.

When The Lights Go Down could be the BEST song he's ever done...it's a contenda.

"There is lonely...and then there's lonely...and then there's how
I feel right now" This mothafucka is LONELY. The emotion of that song
pulls at my heartstrings.

This whole album is a masterpiece! I just rediscovered it lately after I made the mistake to ignore it as a contract filler and let it collect dust. The only two letdowns for me are "My Little Pill" (crap) and the shitty artwork. Otherwise: brilliant!!!

Much like Chaos & Disorder, it's an underrated album.

When I first bought this album, I thought it was okay, but not strong enough to keep. I had planned to give to my brother, to see if he would like it.
But every time I was about to, I'd listen to it "one" more time, and keep it just for a few more listens.
Now it has really grown on me.
I like "5 Women" alot.
However, I still prefer the original "Old Friends 4 Sale" compared to this album's version.

I really dig this album. It is severely underrated.

The only tracks on the Vault that seemingly put the album's overall quality down are the two first numbers. They're not that bad, but as openers they give a certain first impression that somehow changes the overall perception of the record for many listeners. They're chirpy and more boogie-ish, whilst the rest of the record ncessarily isn't. It's the same thing basically that makes most people call Chaos & Disorder a "hard rock" album, as the two first tracks set the vibe for the listener so strongly, whereas there are hardly any other pure rock numbers that follow them. But that does work for the benefit of the Chaos -album, on The Vault however, you can't really categorize especially "The Rest Of My Life" as anything else than bar piano music and that works sort of against the whole project.

5 Women - I like JOe Crocker's performance better only because he sinbgs with a deeper voice than prince.

She spoke to me - on OFS is som much better than the one found on D & P. I'm sure I had heard the song before...legally...

There is lonely - simplke song that weaves a novel

When the lights go down - First time I heard real jazz from Prince (Madhouse I didn't like Madhouse in those days)

Old Friends for Sale - I have quite a few and you can have them for free...

Glad to see I'm not the only one who doesn't like the song, "My Little Pill". That song is as creepy as hell. The idea of Prince popping a pill to escape his troubles is not a very appealing thought.

The other songs are very good. I sing the song "5 Women", "5 Bitches" just to be silly.

old friends for sale is a classic (i like it better than the original, and i actually think the absence of the personal lyrics helps it). 5 women, there is lonely and sarah are pretty sweet too. the rest is mixed. at least two of the songs seem to go on for far too long

it makes it more relatable, and hence more powerful, to the listener. with the lyrics about fargnoli et al it has strong overtones of a national enquirer article
