I avoided buying it for years, because of my stupid, childish reaction to the cover.

I also gave in to the bad reviews, thinking the album might bite. Thankfully, it didn't.

funny reading all these responses
maybe i was naive but i never really thought much about the cover
i saw it for what it was and that was it
i didn't have a problem buying the record
i was buying it because it was prince
no matter the cover, the music was gonna be good
and it was!
Lovesexy blew my mind more than any other prince album since 1999
my ears couldn't believe what i was hearing
i cried tears of joy
and then to see the tour...
what a year it was!

Did no one else get it through Columbia House or BMG CD clubs via mail? I didn't want to get the CD for the music, being a limited fan of his music in the first place. I solely wanted it for the cover, so I could wait and ordered it through Columbia House or BMG (I can't remember which).

This was the last time my best friend and myself ever celebrated a Prince release. Since Purple Rain we would go to the record store and buy the album,go to my house and listen.

We both were 3 weeks away from graduating high school and the word was circulating that Prince's album was out .We rode the bus to the record store ,which was one of those old mom and pop stores. The lady who owned the store knew her music .Her store was decorated with pictures of Elvis, Mick Jagger, and James Brown standing with this lady and they were all signed by these people. That always freaked me out because she knew these people.

Anyway we got off the bus and entered the store ... no Prince album. "Hey Mrs. Lentz, where is the Prince album ???

"We had to hide it behind the counter. He's gone crazy this time !!"

She pulls the album out and he is butt ass naked on the cover. My friend and I looked at each other and said WTF ???

We each bought a copy and listened to it and laughed .He gave it 4 stars and I gave it 3.


Three weeks later we graduated . He went into the Air Force and I went to college . We have seen each other probably 10 times since.

Lovesexy was how I lost my Prince virginity....and I've had a healthy "sex" life ever since.

Back in 1988 my music taste was awful and it was not until a visit to my family in Wales that I was blessed with a first listening to this album. I remember it well cos my cousin - who had just turned 17 - wanted to take my mother and I out in his first car. The music he put on? Lovesexy of course!! I was blown away from the moment I heard Alphabet Street and maybe because the sun was out and we were driving around in this cool car Prince just sounded amazing....even now I always associate the album with the Summer, family and good times

Turned out my cousin was a big Prince fan and he told me I should be too. As soon as I returned home I bought the cassette - and I do remember being a little embarrassed by the cover haha - and have not looked back since. Its not a perfect album by any means and as with a lot of Prince albums of that period the production aint' perfect - always have to turn up the god damn volume so high - but there are classics aplenty and I love it!
