Sure, it was mentioned in reviews ... worth a couple of lines to set the scene -"Prince graces the cover looking serene and saintly, but with an erotic plant emanating from his loins, setting the scene for this holy sexual communion that only the Purple Pastor could etc. etc."

Those that bought the album weren't in the slightest bit embarrassed as far as I'm aware. It was the inadequates who had no intention of purchasing it (but could now justify their insecurity because it showed that 'queer-faggotty-lady-boy, Prince') who got agitated.

Here in the Bay Area..Some of the Sale Clecks,at the record shops
Dress'd Punk, Goth,Rock Etc...Some had spiked , pink, and no hair
{and yeah some of them looked cool} so back then the album cover didnt really catch my atention or bother me...i was more trippin on the looks of the sales clerks

The album cover was so shocking that although I loved "Alphabet Street" at the time, my family didn't buy the record.

I don't think my mom likes Prince.

I purchased Lovesexy while on vacation in Hawaii many, many years ago. I was with my parents and we were at a little mall on the island of Kauai and I made a bee-line for the record store and there is was in all it's glory!! It had only been out one week and I had seen the cover once, but had not had a chance to really examine it. I decided before I left for vacation that I would buy it while I was away (thought it would be cool to purchase it in the U.S. rather than in Canada). Anyway, I bought it along with a few others and I tried to hide it from my parents but my mom eventually saw it and she actually blushed and said "what do you see in that man".

Well, I just walked into the record shop, picked it up, went to the counter, slapped it down and paid. Guy behind the counter wasn't bothered and was comfortable selling it to me. I was comfortable buying it. We were both happy. There was no negativity in it.
