THE "SELLOUT" RISES TO #18

In less than 24 hours "3121" has risen to 18
on Amazon.com!! by the way,there aren't many
posters here, who weren't hoping this would be a
huge hit when it came out,so the idea of Prince
selling out is bullshit..this is how you play the
game,in retrospect,it lokks like a pretty brilliant
move, everyone I've spoke to were talking about him
today!!! So come on ANNOUNCE THE TOUR DATES..SHIT
WHILE U ARE AT IT RELEASE"Musicology Live" on DVD

not quite. the amount of sales needed to jump from 90 to 18 is miniscule compared to what it would take to move from 18 to 1.

kind of like traveling the speed of light. the closer you get, the amount of energy needed to reach it increases exponentially, making it virtually impossible.

same principle here.
this message brought to you by logic.

So, does this speak more to the quality of the album (which I like, BTW) or to the state of the music industry?

neither. it speaks of the basic principle of that if you expose people to music they may actually like it and buy it. if you do not, they won't. up until now, there has been very little exposure of the music so it has been forgotten or simply dismissed.

Popular = good

"Musicology" got a lot of "exposure" and most people here trashed it.

That's what's so genius about it. He fought WB, got out from that contract. Started his own thing, owns everything and plays them at their own game so at the end of the day, he benefits more than the record company and yall call him a sellout---pleez.

Maybe on Amazon...But on the Billboard Album sales he is at #53 and was at the #28 selling album the week before....I am not sure which would carry weight.

Who fucking cares?

Prince:

a. Has more than enough money (yours and mine) to retire right now
b. Will NEVER reach 'Purple Rain' (or for that matter, Batman) sales figures again (unless he dies suddenly)
c. Has solidified his place as a musical legend with nothing left to prove to anyone
d. Could never record another album and make money off of US forever by releasing live shows, vault trax, etc. thru his website and live off of that success without resorting to condescending, compromising and self-caricaturing nonsense like I saw last night.
e. Could never again crack the top 100 and I'd still buy every goddamn record he releases.

he still has to sell enough to make it worth his time to release more stuff... so in a very real way he dose care about money and charts... if he did not care, if he did not want the 250,000,000 person exposure... he would not have gone on AI. if he did not want a boost to the 3121 sales he would not have gone on AI

the album is better than most out there now. And I think that his music was enjoyable and that came out int he performance. If you remind people what good music sounds like, they will but it.

He'll probably need this kind of push from now on in his career. But as is any perfomer that has been out for over 20 years.

You sure you're looking at sales figures over the past 24 hours, or are you looking at the charts from last week, which are actually based on sales from two weeks ago?
