So why was Prince so pissed of at Warners?

Iam sure this question has been asked millions of times, and i have read that Prince was pissed off that WB wouldn't release "goldnigga" as it was too soon after "symbol", so is that why Prince started his public lashing at WB?

You're asking at the wrong time. Folks are fighting wars over the AI performance right now. There are still non-AI threads on the first page. That has to change! biggrin

Warners wanted to release new material in a cost effective manner, an album every other year with singles and a tour. Prince wanted to deliver multiple albums per year and not tour to promote most of them. It's kind of funny he had a beef with them, when there was no proper US tour for any album between Purple Rain and Lovesexy. You could see why the record company would've been hesitant by that point to believe that Prince would promote something they put out.

Another interesting factor that I don't see mentioned much is the fact that it wasn't as simple as Warners not wanting to release the records that Prince wanted released. Warners was supposed to pay up 10 million per release by the early '90s, which makes it harder for a company to go from one Prince release a year to three. I wonder if that 10 million doller per release clause wasn't in the contract if Warners and him could've come to some agreement. Prince always wants to play the victim, but if you have a major contract like that where you've agreed to pay up a 10 million doller per album advance to an artist it's simply not realistic for that artist to all of a sudden decide, "Well, I've got three more albums I want to put out this year. Oh yeah, I'm not interested in promoting them either, that's your job. Yup, no tour. Now, where's my 30 mil?"

lol

Hmmm, interesting. So if WB would give Prince $10 million per album advance, and then Prince saying, "nah, i want 3 albus out this year", then in theory, he'd get $30 million? Yeah, no wonder WB said no.

Prince is a twat. lol
