Come...The song

"Come" is a Hymn. With prince acting has a sexual shaman seeking to expand
consciousness though the sexual act. As he intones "this is something for
your mind" thus describing the power of music to propel and intertwine
with a listener's thoughts. He is intent in exploring taboo, venturing
into the unknown. if one had the power would one view one's own end? The
spirits call from an invisible realm. How does one make contact with the
unseen (the future)? With meditation/prayer or mind-bending chemicals?
Prince seems to suggest that the intimacy of the sexual act is the pathway
to unlocking consciousness itself.

The song suggests sex as a healing force much like Marvin Gaye in "sexual
healing". Being much more about emotional healing ("no more will u cry")
than physical. To give one's self up entirely to the pleasure of being
acted upon by another. Without direction or protest just to "dream" and
acquiesce to the power of the moment. Prince seeks to expand the mind
(blow) with the same intensity of LSD or ecstasy but without the
possibility of damage ("not drive u crazy").

"Come" is an 11 minute attempt to bring the listener to orgasm. With the
various musical transitions representing the to and fro of a sexual
encounter. It is also more importantly about nirvana or bliss the
actualization of absolute clarity when all that is unknown is known abet
briefly. Or conversely when the need to know creases and one just is.

"Come" is funky and mystical, jazzy and poetic, erotic and spiritual. It
embodies the essence of what separates Prince from the ordinary and
earth-bound. An opus that would be the highlight of a lesser career. With
Prince it is just an another gem in an ever expanding treasure trove of
jewels. Lay back, take a listen and remember to...dream...dream...dream.

Excellent interpretation. I wish everyone could see his music like that. Instead of listening to it once and saying this sux that sux. Most of the time, he wants you to think. Which is good, we all need our brains exercised.

Prince shoulda put both versions of that song on the album.
he could have opened it with the short faster version
and closed with the 11 min album version.

something like this...

1. Come
2. Endorphinmachine
3. Space
4. Pheromone
5. Loose
6. Papa
7. Race
8. Dark
9. Dolphin
10. Come
