There is one person who says something about P.'s 15 minutes of fame being over. Um, I could have sworn it was a little longer than that.
Some funny stuff on here: http://myidol.americanido...tid=453541 Why is there view hiliarious? I agree with them, P's performance was one of the worst he has given for years. Sorry, but I've never seen such a bunch of completely stupid, uninformed freaks like on this AI board. The guy with "he's singing like a woman" (look up "falsetto" on the net, man) and the guy with "I wish he did 'When Doves FLY'" (!!!) really made my day.

Is this show repeated? | |

I got 2 questions.
1st: What did he do and perform? 2nd: Did he win ?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
i have just watched this.
He did Lolita and Satisfied. He did not win. Oh and...the performance was terrible. So dull. It had no energy at all. Satisfied is such a shit song. If he can't dance anymore he should stick to guitar cos he always blows me away with that (SNL and Brits). I bet sales actually go down after that one.

On the same board....there is a Prince appreciation thread. On the same board there are A LOT of positive comments. Comments from P fans, comments from people who forgot the skills and loved the performance, many who thought he stole the show. This particular thread was just asinine though. Hate the performance if you will but give props to the performer, alright. All good things they say never last...

Its interesting reading those AI boards. I don't think its that surprising a lot of people didn't like him. I think thats to be expected. Many of the comments were funny - some kids thought he was Michael Jackson's girlfriend. Some people thought he was Michael Jackson. Its good reading.

The advocate.com had this to say on their weekly recap:
28. Prince sings his new song. Prince dances with his two backup singers. Prince pouts and combs his hair and casts withering sex glances at America. Prince disappears from stage before Seacrest can catch him. Prince has won the battle of wills, getting his way and showing up without ever having to touch or see or talk to any of the contestants, Seacrest, or the judges. What you didn’t see was the cleverly concealed tube of his own personal oxygen that doctors inserted directly into his lungs so he wouldn’t have to breathe the same air as everyone else in the Kodak Theater. http://www.advocate.com/e...395&page=3 http://elmadartista.tumblr.com/ http://twitter.com/madartista

I'm addicted to the American Idol board lately. Now they have an on-line poll and they as what the best surprise of the finale was. The choices are Prince, David Hasslehoff's tears, the Little Cowboys, or Clay Aiken. Clay Aiken is winning of course with a healthy 60% but our man P is number 2 with 22%. Wouldn't expects a lot of P fans on that site overall so pretty impressive. All good things they say never last...

All the positive feedback from P's 4 minute performance on AI is insane. I was standing in line at a clothing store today and there were 2 older ladies, probably in their 60's, having a conversation. I didn't catch the beginning of their convo, but I heard one of them say "He walked out there in his li'l suit..." I just knew they were talking about our man. I was right, because right after she said that she said "I love Prince."
You go Prince. | |

I never thought he would appear on such a show,I watched the clip
on HQ and I just love it!! Yes,it's Pop-Prince doing his thing, and doing it very good! He did the Grammy's,RRHOF and many other performances the last couple of years, I really like the fact that the Prince-fan can see his fav artist on the televisionscreen, nothing wrong with that. I mean..even I thought he was almost dead in the late 90's Love4oneanother

They have a lot of strange "revisionist" threads on AI and Okayplayer.
One said he looked like white chick that tanned with agent orange. One called him a sherbert sundae looking MF. On another they called his singing scary girly singing. I wonder who they DO think is talented. I suggest they listen more closely to P's whole catolog. Whew, so glad I found this thread, since the first one was closed. I was panicking there, and saying, "Why was it closed?!", but now I know why.
Just watched Prince's performance on American Idol again on Housequake, and had a few additional thoughts. I'm surprised that nobody mentioned this, but I wonder what Simon Cowell thought of Prince's performance? It sounds like a funny question, I know, but we all know how critical Simon can be of peoples' performances. I'm sure Prince's performance left Simon both impressed and speechless, since you can't mess with greatness (and that is clearly what Prince is). I know that Paula was digging Prince's performance, she was standing up and clapping while he was singing "Lolita". I'm sure Randy was enjoying Prince's performance as well. I love how Prince smiles and then pimp walks off the stage after his performance, that was so cool. It was like he was saying (from the song "Movie Star"), "Man, let's creep; I've had enough of this action!" Only Prince can do that, have it look cool and get away with it. Great performance Prince!! RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

OMG...that was a double-dose of awful-ness. When they sang "No you neva, eva eva. No you neva, eva eva. No you neva make a cheater out of me." I was like And before anyone runs up in here and plays Captain-Save-the-Twinz, I am not talking about their looks or their dancing. I am talking about their lack of singing ability. They would have been better off lipsyncing to a backing track. [Edited 5/26/06 7:01am] Agreed, the twins were DEFINITELY off-key. It would have been better if Tamar was backing Prince up vocally for that performance. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

it was good! Not great, seemed like an effortless runthrough for him! But better than everything else on AI (although I do watch the show). It's goin' down y'all.

But so far, everyone I know who did said Prince kicked ass! And this was coming from people who wern't necessarily fans. I'm the first to admit, Prince's latest album isn't his best work. But when it comes to performing, nobody can hold a candle to his purple majesty!

But therein lies the mystery..... Whichever twin was the most off-key..... That's who P is uh, shagging. "The first time I saw the cover of Dirty Mind in the early 80s I thought, 'Is this some drag queen ripping on Freddie Prinze?'" - Some guy on The Gear Page

If I heard right AI wanted him to do a medley of older hits.
So what does P do...gives em a tape that they can't even screen...he goes on a performs WHAT HE WANTS and then leaves. Apparently Simon doesn't have that many nice things to say as he mentions that NO Idol should ever pull that type of attitude or stiunt in their carreers. HA take that Simon! I'm usually a reader, not a poster. I have been defending Prince to my "Metal Head" husband for the past 20 years. I've broken my husband down enough to make him forego his vow to "never be caught dead purchasing a Prince CD", when he surprised me with Musicology.
When I was watching AI and heard Lolita starting to play, I couldn't believe my ears. I tried, throughout his performance, to enjoy seeing and hearing him live; but when it comes down to it I just had to admit that he had makeup caked all over his face, he sounded out of breath (I guess now that I read that he showed up at the last minute, that I can understand that part) and the twins were horrible! They never would have made it out of AI auditions. I was very disappointed--still living it down. After reading the rest of the posts I was beginning to think that I must be crazy because most everyone else seemed to have loved his performance. Thank God that there are others who saw the same show that I did.
