Well, I got my clue from Donnie McClurkin's book, where he said that he was living a sinful life because he was gay. He said he got delivered from it. I'm just telling you what he said. OK. . .that's his opinion. . .good for him. Just so you know, there are gay Christians. Thanks for clarifying.

Astasheiks said: ThreadBare said: Despite the wide shift in lyrics that his hardcore fans have seen, Prince's evolution is a lot harder for "mainstream listeners" to appreciate.
Prince, as an artist, has tons of baggage. Christian radio, labels and retail would be extremely resistant to him. The lyrical bent of his writing is still too murky for contemporary Christian music or gospel radio. As religious as "The Word" appears to be, Prince today still is an artist into singing "Black Sweat," "Lolita" and "The Dance," telling his listeners to "bounce" and maintaining a pimp image (the twins). The kind of lyrical and stylistic departure he would need to make, I suspect, would totally alienate him from his hardcore base. He knows this. That likely is part of the reason he's spent so much time in the jazz-lite world, in recent years. None of this is said judgmentally about Prince as a person or a practitioner of his faith. I'm just talking about how he likely is perceived by that industry. Just because he has two female singers/dancers performing with him doesn't mean he has a pimp image. Yeah, I think you're oversimplifying things a bit. They're not just dancers and singers. They're props... Prince strolls around with the twins, takes pics of them in cozy little lounges. Poses in pics with them coyly. It's reminiscent of his Diamond & Pearl routine, which also was about having two women obsess over him. Even the jokes surrounding his picts with them have been about him projecting a pimp image. Where do you think that message originates? Bottom line is this: A lot of Prince's material still deals with sex. As such, that's not what Christian radio execs are looking to add to their format. For good reason. [Edited 6/2/06 16:10pm]

Simply put, Christian radio will not give airplay to artists who make both christian and secular music. Prince has made some very good religious music. "The Cross" and "Ladder" are some of his best, (I'm surprised someone hasn't tried to cover those songs) But the fact is that even though Prince is not as wild as he used to be. He still sings songs that are somewhat suggestive and he has the gyrating women onstage with him. And christian radio can turn on you in a heartbeat if you cause any controversy. Case in point, Look at Amy Grant. Her music was all over the radio in the 80's. Then she left her husband for country singer Vince Gill, Signed on with A&M records and started singing Pop music. Now? You very rarely hear her music at all on Christian radio, Even though "El Shaddai" and "Sing Your Praises To The Lord" are classics. Unless he does a complete turnaround, Prince has zero chance of being played on christian radio.

(except for Gospel) Doesn't fit Prince at all No it's not man. The industry has changed. I listen to christian radio. And I hear songs that sound like U2, Sheryl Crow, Even (GULP!) Britney Spears!! As a matter of fact, There's a Swing Band called Denver & The Mile High Orchesta who sound just like Frank Sinatra. Whatever music you like. There's a christian artist who's doing it in that style.

Amy Grant's marital problems with fellow Christian artist Gary Chapman were fairly well known, and as I recall, he was pretty much painted as the bad guy in their divorce. She'd gone pop way before that, however, and Vince Gill is a really popular artist with a "nice guy" image that contrasts nicely with Chapman's. Grant and Gill have made a fairly nice name for themselves serving as co-hosts of events and both have successful careers, especially here in Nashville. They haven't been negatively impacted by her divorce from Chapman, I'd say.

Prince and Pat Robertson on the 700 club..... "God talked to me bout this coming hurricane season." "Yeah, God told me to stop that Typhoon doo back in the 90s." ....and scene ***** Yikes. The day Prince is able to cross over to xian radio (or country) is the day I throw in the towel. Even now I skip the most overtly-jesus-y songs (God, Annastesia, The Cross, etc). If I wanted to hear preachy music I'd listen to xian/gospel; I don't need/want it from Prince. The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

She was singing secular music in the 90's before she got with Vince Gill and was accepted as both a secular and Christian artist
