Both are used for quick exposure to a MASSIVE audience. Actually, I feel as if American Idol might be slightly more valid forum for a singer/musician than the Superbowl, since is has to do with music.

Promotionwise, Prince is no different than U2, The Sones, Paul McCartney,etc. He's a superstar---sometimes he can do a superstar move. It's not like he was holding hands with the American Idol kids.

Didn't Prince say in an interview what an ill American Idol is to the music industry?

I think it's more a contradiction than it is a sellout.

I think it would be great if Prince performed at the Superbowl but only if he performed by himself and not with any of these tired current performers. That seems to be happening a lot lately. Entertainers have been performing at the Superbowl even before the music scene went to hell so I have no problem with the Superbowl itself.

Prince performing on "American Idol" though is another story. If someone talks about the artists and music of today like Prince has, he doesn't need to associate with them. I have no problem with selling out for money or exposure but when it involves helping the current music scene grow, then I do, because it needs to go out of style and let something good come into style.

Prince wasn't a damn contestant on the freekin' show. All he did was perform on it.

And why wasn't the Grammys considered selling out? Doesn't that show also represent what is wrong with the industry? Plus, P performed with the flavor of the moment, wailing ass Beyonce. At least he performed on AI on his on terms and was forced to do a duet with one of the contestants.

Hey, the only reason I watched it was to see if Prince was going to be on there and what he would be doing. Other than that, I wouldn't be caught dead watching that show.
