If you think Prince sold out on AI... You're a friggin' idiot!

NOTE: Revised thread title... Hopefully the Napoleon quote will help those who take offense at being called "morons".

O.K., sorry for the bluntness, but anyone who can seriously say Prince sold out, or somehow compromised his integrity last night, doesn't know a thing about what Prince does for a career.

Let me see if I can boil this down for you... Every (say "Every"), musician who has ever had any kind of impact on popular music has "sold out" then, in your terms.

The Stones, Zeppelin, Elvis, Sinatra, Aerosmith, The Who, Dylan (remember Dharma and Greg?smile, the Beatles... you name it, have ALL used various methods of crossover promotion; whether it be Super Bowl shows, commercials, corporate tours, movie roles.

It's simply assinine to fault Prince for using THE biggest promotional tool to get his music to more people. Not to mention that it is at least a "music-related" show; not simply a widely-seen show.

The same sanctimonious critics have no problem with him doing Leno, Oprah, Ellen. (The last time I checked, those are sellout-machines, where EVERYONE is whore-ing their product, show, cause, talent).

You critics need to wake-up and realize that Prince has proven himself in the past few years, to have excellent instincts and business sense.

To call last night a "sellout", makes you at best, someone who doesn't understand the "business" in "music business", and at worst, a plain hater.

You may now return to fantasyland... Gosh!

Guess you must be one of the "morons", to take such offense.

Sorry if a little logical discussion of Prince is too much for you.

By the way, is there anything in the initial post that you can counter?

Yes, the use of 'moron'. I actually don't think he sold out by doing AI. This is who Prince is now, at this time in his career, and if he manages to shift a few more units then it could be a smart move. Playing on AI won't make 'G-Spot' or 'When Doves Cry' sound any worse. It won't make 3121 sound any better, but if it increases his exposure and record sales and also his coffers, good luck to him. I'm happy to see him on TV, but I just don't think it was a very good performance. To be honest, he can play anywhere so long as he nails it, which I think is what it's ultimately all about.

Anybody who calls me an friggin idiot because I have a different point of view is an asshole !
Prince is a sellout ! For years and years he fought for artists rights and now he performs on the biggest industry 'slave factory' just to sell more records. That's a very sad move.

And it's very funny to see, how all the smallminded fanatic fans are now defending their idol. He becomes more and more a bad joke.

I can imagine. Even basic sarcasm is a no-no there. I kept getting booted out of the chat and couldn't get back in, it was weird. Why can't cocaine and E be a source of humour in a Prince chatroom?

Truthfully, I don't think people even know what selling out is anymore. As long as he didn't compromise his principles to make money, and he can sleep well at night between the twins, he's okay.

The point is, for weeks all we've hearing round here is:

- Where's Prince?
- Why no promtion?
- He really blew it.
- Another wasted album.
- He should do Leno.
- He should do Oprah.
- He should do a coffee commercial.
- yada, yada, yada...

NOW, he pulls another major coup by getting huge exposure (promotion, afterall is just the method of getting that), and the very same people are now complaining about his METHOD of promotion.

That is simply moroninc...

Last night is the first and only time I've ever seen the show and I watched it strictly to see if Prince was going to be on there. From what I've seen, it was strictly singers competing. Do they ever have bands competing on there? If not, then they are only looking for singers and I don't see it as a "music related show" because, when these singers get record deals, they just continue on with more of the same that dominates radio today.....balladeers over a hip hop beat.

What is lacking in today's music, especially R&B, is bands. If the show is strictly promoting singers only (which we don't need) and Prince has shot off his mouth in the past about the lack of "real music" in today's music, then yes, I see it as a sellout move and gladly wear the title "idiot".

No. YOU just don't seem to understand our arguments. There are so much other COOL shows he could've appeared on, but he chooses the worst of them all. Plus he is contradicting himself in the baddest way, because he always preached about artists rights and integrity. If you can't see why AI is such a pain in the ass and why some fans HATE seeing prince on there, then you're the 'friggin idiot'.
