Prince is Worse Than MJ, he truly sold out

it seems prince has finally bowed down to the ultimate word

MONEY

the fact is,

everyone takes the piss out of MJ and other artists,

but even Michael Jackson hasnt bothered to appear on american idol to get record sales

if he did,

it would be the usual responses,

"how desperate is he?"
"look how crap he is now"
"what a sad case"

well, those comments are said now anyhow,

but look how contradicting it is, if Prince goes on a turd fest show like American idol, and people are happy,

yet if someone like Madonna or MJ went on, there would great drama and hardons ahoy!

may be prince just couldnt take having low record sales anymore and needed the dough,

in the end, the MONEY always wins!

I don't think it's a matter of money. I think it's the fact his album was dropping like a tank down the charts so he decided to give it a boost.

But i agree, had it been MJ, Madonna, Janet or anyone else, everyone would be trashing them like they always do and labelling them sellouts.

But it's a different story here because this is a Prince board after all and everyone is going to defend his actions. wink

Right, like they're really gonna let MJ perform on Idol. A CHILDREN'S show. Okay.

They are still calling P a sellout here as well as HQ.
He can't win no matter what he does.

Again, what is "selling out"? To me, performing at American Idol is the equivalent to playing on an awards show. Whoopity Doo!

Seriously People don't KNOW what selling out is, I don't think.

Hres an example people, Prince would be a SELL OUT, if he did a commercial for BEEF, not by performing, cuz ya know HE IS a PERFORMER!

Sheesh. I don't get it. They'd rather NOT see him perform I guess! confused

Exactly! On the point! If you play on a show where shitty cloned popstars are produced or if you play on a show where shitty cloned popstars get awards for their shitty cloned music - what the hell is the difference??? eek

It's just a bit of promo on a high-profile show, it's not like he came on stage in the purple rain outfit and felt up the Twinz dressed as Apollonia 6.

At least Prince makes music, and makes good music. I guess we haven't been able to say that about Michael in . . . ten years maybe?
And we'll probably never hear from Michael again, and thank God for that!
eek

Hate Michael uzi
It was on that day I put a jihad on them. And if you don't believe it, then you'd better kill me now, because I'll put a jihad on you, too. (hopefully you guys know the movie)

Exactly! What record does he want to promote on AI? "Invincible"? biggrin By the time the new MJ album is ready, the show will probably be cancelled (around 2015 or so).

BTW-- Remeber when Invincible was coming out and MJ performed at some MTV awards show with N'Sync? He popped and locked and looked winded. Case closed MJ has been and will forever be more of a sell out than Prince. Ask Pepsi...

319, 1999 or 3121.

I think we've surpassed each of those numbers already... lol

And you guys are right, people have NO clue what "sellout" means...When Prince allowed "Baby I'm A Star" to be used for a commercial for Target, THAT was a much larger sell-out than any 5-minute performance on AI could ever hope to be. When he wrote the "Right Stuff" Pepsi jingle, THAT was a much larger sell-out than singing "Lolita" on AI to boost CD sales...

And for the record, who here really CARES one way or another??..lol...Seriously. Does ANYONE on this thread or on this site give a rat's ass if Prince plays the standard promotional games or declares himself an "indie maverick" and promotes himself through his website only??...Does anyone actually become emotionally effected by these decisions?

"But Prince said..."...yeah, yeah, blah blah blah...I don't know about anyone else, but when Prince said that record labels were like plantations and he wanted to emancipate himself from being a 'slave', I said "Yeah, ok, I guess I see your point there, and um...oh, hell, just drop a new CD soon"...When Prince signed onto using a record company to promote Rave, I said "Yeah, ok, but weren't you against...oh, hell, just drop a new CD soon"...When Prince changed his name to a symbol I said "Yeah, ok, I guess your reasons have some valid...oh, hell, just drop a new CD soon"...when he went back to using Prince as his name, I said "Yeah, ok, I guess changing back would be...oh, hell, just drop a new CD soon"...lol lol

Just drop a new CD, I don't really get myself worked up about his proclamations from one year to the next...hell, from one month to the next...my life does not revolve around whether or not Prince is being consistent between his words and his actions, and my life is definitely not made happier by knowing he is, nor sadder by believing he's not. However, a new CD from the man does indeed make my life happier, even if just momentarily...(or in the case of the better CDs, made happier for years, even decades)...

Seriously...outside of those who enjoy finding reasons to find fault with Prince, does anyone, anywhere, really care about any of this??...

A whole bunch of folks care...the elitist fans that feel that their credibility is a stake because Prince performed on AI. You know the ones...they've bragged to their friends and family that just don't 'get' P about how talented he is and now feel ashamed because appearing on AI should supposedly be beneath a person of P's caliber.
