You are right, he doesn't need to play the guitar. Look at the whole Parade tour. He only ever picked it up for purple rain. A whole 2 hours with no guitar.

The difference is, the Parade tour was good. The performance on AI was tired and off key.

I even heard a passer by say that it sounds like shit from 1981.

Sure, Prince's little one off performance did not compare to a full blown tour from 1986. However, was is supposed to? Prince is still the best thing going and he showed it last night on American Idol.

2. i didn't think prince's performance (as in his stage presence and moves) were all that.

3. i think his vocals were pretty amazing, even though he can work that mutant vocal range in his sleep, i'm sure.
