Prince...Lolita vs. Fury (not to burst the AI bubble)

Not to burst the post A.I. bubble, but I was not able to see the whole performance, but I did read that Lolita and Satisfied (which I saw) were performed...

With all the talk of "Fury" as the video/next single, why not light up the AI crowd with that song? It can only help the single and 3121 album.

Same confusion applied to the SNL performance. I LOVED Fury, but at the time "Black Sweat" was the video in circulation and he never performed that live. It may have been a bigger hit.

I have now heard/seen P perform Satisfied twice in the past year or so (remember the Soul Train Awards...medley of Glamorous Life, Satisfied, DMSR)

Why the out of sync performances that don't seemingly coincide with the video/singles?

Please don't flame, but I am really just curious....

In any event P, You are the MAN!

I'm really not trying to talk about AI, but the confusing marketing strategy to to what he is doing....he seems to be working on his own schedule and he's unknowingly undermining one of his best albums in years...

Please don't lock the thread...its not an AI thread

I asked the same question when he did Fury on SNL and he'd just released Black Sweat. It's Prince being Prince but would you have him any other way?
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Let's keep in mind that this is Prince
King of mysterious marketing stratgies.

I mean come on! he puts out his best album in
years (3121) with a great buzz and then POOF!
He disappears and lets the album flounder...Only so
he can resurface almost exactly 2 months later
on American Idol.

seems unorganized to me, but Im sure he's got a plan wink
If you will, so will I

I think that's the only way to sum it up. Even with Musicology, he spent more time promoting "the hits" on his television appearances than the album. Out of his multiple TV appearances in 2004 he only performed Musicology twice in the U.S. and Dear Mr. Man. He never performed the other singles at all.

I guess his helter skelter thinking shouldn't come as a surprise...with Sign of the Times, he didn't release Housequake as a single at a time it was a popular hit, instead releasing "If I was ur girlfriend"...go figure...

I know he isn't big on chart positioning, but he has such a golden opportunity the last two years...make his music available to a newer generation so they can see his musicianship....Fury is a stronger song than "Lolita" and Satisfied is a typical Prince ballad....

PLease let it this thinking be part of a bigger plan confused

Prince is probably thinking too fast. You have to slow down for America. When he gets bored, he moves on. But that's what being an artist is about. Look on the bright side...now there will be a Lolita video circulating.

Hopefully there's an official one in the works, to refresh all those that caught the performance tonight.

No "Lolita" vid until Fury does what it needs mad

Could you imagine had he laid down the hammer playing Fury with the same SNL intensity tonight? Taylor Hicks hair would change color and the national media would rave on about P and the song.

No matter, he is P.

I love his artistry, but his ADD when it comes to his music choices is killing 3121. Maybe the tour will help

It will circulate virally. You don't have to stop one to start the other. Nothing wrong with this.

...and don't get that tone with me.

Chill out biggrin

I'm just not a fan of Lolita in any way, shape, or form. The song is wack. Granted P's live performances always give me new love for songs I don't like, but I'm not feeling it at all. Ditto for Satisfied.

WE can agree to disagree....I am just confused by the strategy of P...the Fury vid seems relatively new and I would hate for what I perceive as a weaker song getting a video before the stronger song has a chance to shine....
