LoveSexy the last real album Let's admit it, Prince hasn't even tried to produce a really tight album since LoveSexy and he has since fully embraced the digital generation in which we can re-mix the songs we like and skip the songs we don't on our own cds or in personal digital music libraries. There are songs on DAP (funny acronym: double anal ...), NewPower Soul, and every album since that I haven't heard since the year they were released and will probably never hear again.
So it's pointless to agonize over the songs we don't like. Skip 'em. Prince is going to appeal to the various tastes of his audience and that's inevitably going to mean that some of the things he puts out aren't going to be for everyone.

I like loveSexy, but I don't think it was his real last album. Nor do I think it is as good as the hype. Kat's rap, the albums extreme tempo-slowdown towards the end, the overly busy parts all detract from it's energy and don't lend much to contemplation. Don't get me wrong--I love the album, but I don't think it's nessesarily one of his best. The Gold Experience, , and Emancipation to me are equally as good, and have just as many or more flaws.

Lovesexy is held high by most Prince enthusiasts but it did not get rave reviews from critics...Dance On in particular is not that strong of a song imo, and the stranger quirky songs like Lovesexy or Eye No only appeal to the hardcores (like me), but I would place TRC/GOLD/and 3121 above Lovesexy, as far as quality of music is concerned. Of course what do I know, Ive only followed P for the last 22 years. I remember all the Controversey w/the cover of Lovesexy, some stores would not sell it or covered up the cover. I bought mine the first day it came out just like all the rest of his catalogue. Stand Up! Everybody, this is your life!

No, it doesn't suck. It's an excellent album, but it's certainly not his last "real album".

No, it doesn't suck. It's an excellent album, but it's certainly not his last "real album". Nah, the album is far from sorry but it is overhyped. I think u find that many folks dig it so much on here simply cuz that's when they first got into P. It's probably the first album they ever bought of Prince, or first show they saw, or first poster, or whatever. You will usually find that people who were deeply into P from an earlier period, won't rave about the LoveSexy album. It's a cool album but nah, it's far from a classic. He talked about not having enough good material ready for Parade, hell, I say that statement applies even more so to LoveSexy. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

I think his last 'GREAT' album was The Gold Experience!
Although all of his post-Sexy records have amazing moments (like "The One" from Newpower Soul or "The Question Of U" from Graffiti Bridge). Musically The Rainbow Children is breathtaking but the religious theme and The Voice From The Ass give me a complex feeling like: " "

What's the point with me admitting to your benefit that you will probably never hear again some songs that you don't like?

What's a "real" album entail? And what are albums like The Gold Experience and The Truth? Phony albums? Musical toys? [Edited 5/20/06 7:41am] The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

Well, I've been a hardcore fan of Prince since Purple Rain (I was 12 years old). Lovesexy was the last album of his that I truly loved. And I never even went to a concert until 1997. I've had every other album since then and have never felt that they were that good. I was so affected by Lovesexy when it came out, that I recited the lines from the tour book for a speech in speech class. I know now that Prince's views of Christianity back then were distorted, but some of the album lyrics made me want to read my Bible. The lines from Anastesia, "love is God, God is love" were so simplistic, but so true. But that's my opinion. To each, his own.

Prince is going to appeal to the various tastes of his audience and that's inevitably going to mean that some of the things he puts out aren't going to be for everyone. I agree Nothing has quite touched this album. It sums up the entire Prince era for me. Nothing has come close to Lovesexy and the albums before it. Something changed about Prince after he wrote this album. His music started to sound more and more inhibited and less and less honest. A song like Gett Off would have never made it onto this album. Nor Diamonds and Pearls for that matter. Lovesexy was the last great album to see the REAL Prince. The one that is flawed, that is human, with ALL the rough edges. Just as we like him. A song like Strollin'? Well it's a perfectly nice harmonious song but it just leaves me cold. It's just pretty but that's it. Or Peach. Yeah like you'ed say in real life "The kind of girl you'ed like to teach, she's a peach". There was nothing real about these songs. Shut up already, damn.

Why do I think this is the last real album? Cause they charged real tax when I bought it! I don't have time to twist a stick up my ass and climb Mt. High n' Mighty. I'm a fan of Prince, have been since 1983.and will be as long as he continues to make music which appeals to my ear... makes my head bob... and gel to some irresistable grooves. all this other.. is it real.. is it inspired... is it commercial.. is it spiritual... is it...is it...is it...is it...is it... Shut UP already... DAMN!!! and just enjoy the music. If you havent liked anything he's made since (feel in your own album from the past) then why are you even here at a Prince FAN site posting?

I agree that Lovesexy ended an era. It was the last great ´Prince´ album from the 80s.
But after that, he released at least two unique, powerful and very consistent albums: Gold Experience and The Rainbow Children. If ´Days of Wild´ and ´The Ride´ replaced ´We March´ and ´319´, Gold Experience would have been almost perfect.

I got my first Prince album in 1983, but i really kicked in as a fan in maybe 85, I see LoveSexy on par or close to most of the gems that were made in that 80's golden period, I think LoveSexy was one of the standout albums in that time,it was different to what came before it(as they all were mostly in that time) but it was still Prince and was still interesting and unique, its a great album i cant see trc as being better , trc in my view has some great traqcks but it falls down in some ways, its also bit over religious and i think its likeable album in many ways but it didnt suprise me in a good way as much as LoveSexy when i first heard it.
