Prince on Christian radio.

Don't ya think Prince could pass for a Christian Singer. A lot of his songs are about God, even Jesus.

Why isn't his music credible in the Christian music industry. I think it should be and could be.

Dontcha agree?

Someone will probably have to cover one of these songs first. The name Prince probably still makes some choich people uneasy.

Maybe Tamar will crossover with BL&B, without him. But then we don't know what the rest of the CD is like.

I know it would. But it would be funny to me. People would totally blow it up even if he barely talks on there.

Yes! I think some of his "spiritually themed" songs could be played on Christian radio. I myself created and burned a CD full of nothing but the religious songs Prince has done. I doubt mainstream Christian radio would play him though because they equate him 2 the sexual content he's sung about.
"Bring friends, bring your children and bring foot spray 'cause it's gon' be funky." ~ Prince

A kiss on the lips, is betta than a knife in the back ~ Sheila E

Despite the wide shift in lyrics that his hardcore fans have seen, Prince's evolution is a lot harder for "mainstream listeners" to appreciate.

Prince, as an artist, has tons of baggage.

Christian radio, labels and retail would be extremely resistant to him. The lyrical bent of his writing is still too murky for contemporary Christian music or gospel radio. As religious as "The Word" appears to be, Prince today still is an artist into singing "Black Sweat," "Lolita" and "The Dance," telling his listeners to "bounce" and maintaining a pimp image (the twins).

The kind of lyrical and stylistic departure he would need to make, I suspect, would totally alienate him from his hardcore base. He knows this. That likely is part of the reason he's spent so much time in the jazz-lite world, in recent years.

None of this is said judgmentally about Prince as a person or a practitioner of his faith. I'm just talking about how he likely is perceived by that industry.

Just because he has two female singers/dancers performing with him doesn't mean he has a pimp image.

no. because a lot of his songs are about sex too (in fact, even more of them than are about god) and putting down sex is more important than elevating god, to Christians biggrin

I hate to be the one to say this, but a lot of evangelical Christians view Jehova's Witnesses as a cult and would never promote that on mainstream Christian radio.

There are lots of contemporary Christian and gospel singers out there who have a lived a sinful life and are still embraced by Christian music lovers. Donnie McClurkin was gay...Kirk Franklin was addicted to porn...

Living the gay lifestyle is a sin to christians who read and believe
the bible. This is a fact, whether you like it or not.
And whats up w/the rainbow symbolising gays? Shouldn/t the color pink be
used or something? just wondering....

[offtopic]since you asked...rainbow[/offtopic]

and umm, i highly doubt that christian radio would be willing to play prince's stuff, because dude's gotta lotta stigma attached to 'im from back in the day (moral majority, ennybody?)...the brotha would have to turn away from secular music entirely, not just have the few token spiritual-/religious-themed songs that he's got.

Actually, not every Christian who reads and believes the Bible thinks that "living the gay lifestyle" is a sin. A segment of the Christian population actually believes that there are real live gay Christians. THIS is a fact, whether you like it or not.

Well, I got my clue from Donnie McClurkin's book, where he said that he was living a sinful life because he was gay. He said he got delivered from it.

I'm just telling you what he said.
