Actually, I can't believe that people would vote more for Prince than some of those others. Surely Natalie Portman would get more votes than ol' boy? Dude's hardly that popular anymore.

(no offence to the original poster) so what would your position be in the moral debate? i'm assuming you have one, since you made the effort to create this controversial yet witty statement. well at the end of the day we both enjoy our meat. [Edited 5/23/06 6:21am] Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

Just because it was reported third hand, don't assume that he isn't a veggie anymore.
I get the impression that he is less militant than before and is accepting of others eating fish, ie the 3121 party menu, but that doesn't necessarily imply that he eats fish himself. It comes down to the same old with Prince - speculation and hearsay. Trouble is, he does have a history of contradicting himself, so there is always the chance that it could be true, but let's give him the benefit before demanding he returns the award. And to be vaguely fair to the lambchop comment - it wasn't just a meat based reference to a veggie thread, but probably the detailed highlights of the Rave inlay that made him say that - which might be obvious, but when has stating the obvious ever been a bar to posting on the org?

muirdo said: And anyway aren't PETA fucking glorified terrorists?
Their official position seems to be that they neither condone nor condemn "terrorism," as long as no animals (including people) are hurt. Basically, they've weaseled their way out of answering this question. However, since PeTA is a tax-exempt organization, their federal tax returns are public records, and there's some pretty interesting stuff in there.
As for the ALF, it isn't an "organization" in the sense of having a leader, offices, etc. Rather, anyone who is a vegetarian can break the law in the name of "animal liberation" and attribute that action to the ALF. What if the purpose of the ALF is to allow members of above-ground animal rights groups to engage in criminal activities and place the blame on this other pseudo-organization? Penn & Teller did a nice exposé of PeTA. Aside from the stuff above, they mention:
Please note: effective March 21, 2010, I've stepped down from my prince.org Moderator position. |

FYI, i'm not a fan of PETA, though i do agree with many of their basic principles (and by basic, i mean BASIC). I don't agree with the majority of their tactics, and I think shaming and smear campaigns are useless methods for advocating positive change.
Admittedly, I'm generally a painfully moderate person (believe it or not) - even my religious beliefs stress balance over all else - and I know other people believe that radical activism brings about radical results. Personally, I can't get with that. If we had an animal rights organization that wasn't polarizing, that didn't insist that people become all-or-nothing total vegans NOW or else you're EVIL!!!!, and if there were an organization advocating for vegetarian food as an OPTION in people's diets, I think more "normal joes" would actually warm up to cutting down on meat, or at least opting to buy free range meats and products not tested on animals. i think PETA has done more harm than good in their help in creating a stereotype of vegetarians as a bunch of militant boors who eat flavorless food. and what's more annoying is, when people find out i'm vegetarian, they automatically assume i'm a PETA freak. and i'm SO not. and this is why i dislike PETA greatly. [Edited 5/23/06 12:08pm] co-sign on all of this--i've never liked PETA for the reasons you've stated above. i agree with their basic principles as well, but not to the point of being all super "GO VEG OR DIE!!!111!" and stuff like that. it's nice to see folks who are passionate about their cause, but still there should be something that tells 'em, hey, you may wanna slow yer role a bit. i eat meat, but not nearly as much as i did when i was a kid...and yeah, i can definitely testify that there's some mighty fine vegetarian/vegan food out there to be had. oh lawd...

NEW YORK - Prince has been voted the "world's sexiest vegetarian" in PETA's annual online poll, the animal rights group announced Monday. Prince, 47, shares the honor with Kristen Bell, the 25-year-old star of "Veronica Mars," which is being carried over from UPN to the new CW Network this fall. A strict vegan, Prince recently wrote in the liner notes of his latest album, "3121," about the ills behind wool production. He closed the disc with a quote from Mahatma Gandhi: "2 my mind, the life of a lamb is no less precious than that of a human being." Rave/3121 error aside, when did he ever use this quote, let alone end a disc with it?
