when i was at school i was convinced i'd end up in prince's band, even though my keyboard playing skills are miserable. i was so convinced that i bet 5 different people one pound each that i'd be in his band by the end of the year.

in truth, i really knew it wasn't going to happen. but i enjoyed the thrill of throwing money so confidently away on such a fantasy, and i enjoyed confusing my friends, who took the bet but were a bit disturbed by how certain i was about it...

it was like, "this is easy money!! but he looks so certain... but that's CRAZY! prince isn't letting a 15 year old into his band..."

they didn't know what to think. it was a prank, really. but it gave me a huge prince buzz.

between about 1993 and 2000, my fantasy was that prince would one day make a return to his eighties form, and give us his "blood on the tracks" comeback. but that didn't happen neither.
