Prince videos from the new "Batman" DVD

Last night I finally got to dig into my Burton/Keaton "Batman" DVD. After the film was over, I popped in the second disc and went right to my Holy Grail: the Prince videos. Two of them I'd never seen, so I was looking forward to finally checking them off my list.

"Partyman": One I'd never seen. Very cool, using the museum set from the movie. And also continuing with the half-Joker face painting from the "Batdance" video. This clip has some cool dancing in it, with Prince splitting and leg-twirling all over the place. What's up with the freaky mermaid-in-a-box thing? I didn't quite get that.

"Scandalous": Basically four minutes of Prince enjoying the feel of his own body as he serenades me. I mean, the VIEWER. Serenades the VIEWER. (ahem) A video like this is tough to pull off, when it's just the artist and a mic! Cool to finally see, but I'm pretty sure I won't be revisiting it.

"Batdance": Okay, NOW we're talkin'. I remember seeing this clip briefly on MTV, maybe, right when the song came out, but I only got to see it once. What a trip! Dancing batwomen, dancing Jokers, and Prince himself in his "Gemini" costume, half-Batman and half-Joker. Trippy concept, but somehow, I have to say, he pulls it off. I do enjoy the madness of this video. Little touches like the bat-symbol on the end of his guitar, the peals of thunder as he approaches the electric chair... Very strong visuals. But I have to say, I really can't stand "modern dance" people. The Jokers in the video, mugging for the camera... I know that's what they were supposed to be doing, but that whole over-emoting through dance stuff really gets under my skin.

Anyway, if you're a die-hard fan and you want to add three hard-to-get videos to your collection, this is a great way to do it. I wish Warners and Prince would put their differences aside, and release EVERY video in one set. That would be AWESOME.

Anx

i wish WB would quit spreading all the cool prince videos across different DVD releases and put them out in one collection. there's great stuff on the reissues of purple rain, graffiti bridge and under the cherry moon, too...but it looks like i gotta get creative with the DVD burner if i want 'em all in one place.

What you saw was the edited version of the PARTYMAN video. There is a longer version which didn't make it to the BATMAN collection. Since the video isn't available anywhere else, it really irks me to have only the short PARTYMAN on DVD.
