3121 - Did it die a quick death? Is it me, or did this CD burn out rather quickly? I don't find myself playing as much latetly. I did wear it out for about 2 wks.

I like it almost just as much as I did when it came out. It isn't anything too special for him, but it's an enjoyable listen that shows he can still write strong pop songs. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

frickin love this cd TOUR TOUR TOUR Me too. This is the CD of the year for me. I think there is still some kind of life left in this CD. All he has to do is show up on TV a lot and sales will go up. By how much I don't know but units will move. I hope Prince will show up on the BET Awards this year. This is the time for him to do it. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

That's exactly what I think he's doing. I think he wants to kill two birds with one stone. I think it would have helped if he still promoted the project once 3121 came out cause in Tamar's case, the more people see you the more will be interested in hearing your stuff but I don't work for the dude, I just buy his CD's I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I think it is more sad that most fans here are unaware of the musical world outside of Prince or most music post 1985 than the rest of the music world not interested in Prince. Prince fans are missing so much more by missing out on a world of quality music than the rest of the world only missing out on one quality musician. this message brought to you by logic.

I'm sorry, but as a serious music lover whose mantras are "music is my life" and "keep a melody on your mind," I have to disagree. There is a dearth of quality music out there. That's why I keep going back to my Prince CDs. People just are not that inspired or original these days. They're not even interesting. There are some but they are so few and far between... and played on radio/television even less. perfection is a fallacy of the imagination...

Its not like me to defend my fellow orgers....but just this once I will. In my experience fans of Prince's music tend to have a greater knowledge of "the music world" and more eclectic tastes than the average Joe. "Don't hate me cos I'm beautiful"

It was a valiant try still love ya P Its an ok album but I can't see that it ever had HUGE potential. The market for it was pretty much hardcore fans ( who all have it by now ) and generation Xers who have fond memories of listening to Prince in high school but gave up on him during the name change/slave crap. Its main appeal seems to be a warm fuzzy sense of nostalgia upon hearing Prince resurrect some of his old school sounds and remind us that he can still write and perform some OK tunes. Unfortunately, if you were never into old school Prince then the warm fuzzy nostalgic kind of feeling fails to arise and you're left with more of an "OK, its nice enough...next!" kind of feeling. Maybe he could sell a few more copies if he did some more promotion but I don't think it was ever going win over many listeners who had never shown any interest in Prince before. It not all that serious...The album is suffering more from a lack of promotion than anything else...The midget started out with a bang and then suddenly started ignoring the 3121 project like a chick he met at a club...The dude simply needs to get off his ass and promote the damn album...1.1 million worldwide is not bad; but Prince, if he played it right, would have had a platinum album in the US just from the hype alone...Buy hey, we wouldn't be talking about Prince, right? See him at the tour...

I can see the news
Prince dumps Universal blaming poor promotion.... Prince joins record company X (are there any left?) for worldwide distribution deal Yawn Just go back to Warners and turn out quality albums with a guaranteed tour Who cares about Tamar..just another bland R & B singer

it is a terribly good album. but i sort of played it to death, so put it aside for a while...
went back to musicology, and find it awfully fresh-sounding just now.

That's a much larger group than you might think. I meet people all the time who have fond memories of P and are just waiting for a reason to check him out again, but without any sense of importance or momentum behind an album they're not gonna go out of their way. It's up to P to win them back if he really wants to.

Stopped listening to Musicology after the first two or three weeks it was out. Love 3121; it's hot. It's something of a return to form, and the tour should generate lots of excitement for the album (along with any other projects - a film, perhaps - that might coincide with the tour).

regardless of how prince feels about 3121, i love it! incense and candles never did grow on me and i'm pretty sure it won't but i love all the other tracks. the word is easily one of my favorite prince tracks. ever. for real real, not for play play.
i hope 3121 sees a proper tour and proper promotion. perhaps he just wanted to chill for a bit longer before hitting the road again or maybe the conversation about supporting tamar's record is on the mark. or, not unlike prince, maybe he just lost interest in the project. at the end of the day, i love 3121 and still listen to it frequently.
