I think The Truth is very underrated. It is a very nice almost-acoustic set from Prince. Man In A Uniform and One of Your Tears are my favorites, but there are several other really strong tracks on there. Don't Play Me, Fascination, and Other Side of the Pillow are all worth more than a few listens. You should really give it a listen. I promise it won't be your last time.

The Truth, to me, is Prince's most over-rated and under-rated albums.

For the period it was recorded/released (1996-2000) it's probably his most conistent in quality, sound, and song-writing.

On the other hand, I've never been a fan of strummy acoustic guitar.

The album's really not that strummy. The stuff he's playing is pretty intricate.

a large chunk of it is very strummy. it works for those songs and the album. i'm just saying it's not my favorite thing to hear in music.

I know you're not a fan. And I know the album is acoustic. But it doesn't come across as very 'strummy' to me.

half or more of the tracks are, though.

off the top of my head...

The Truth
Don't Play Me
3rd Eye
The Other Side Of The Pillow
Comeback
Welcome 2 The Dawn

When I think "strummy", I think of musically simplistic and bland like Goo Goo Dolls and Howie Day. The Truth has a lot more going for it than that.

Why would you ask such a thing, if you have it? I could understand if you wanted to know if it was worth buying. That's kind of corny. You have the damn thing, so listen to it.

Er, practically the entire album is just strummed rather than picked. "Welcome 2 the Dawn" is a bit more like "Fascination" or "Man In A Uniform" (ie, picked with lots of effects), but the rest is fairly "strummy".

Haven't listened to it in a long while but these 3
songs are my favorites:
Circle of Amour
The Other Side of the Pillow
Fascination

Yes you should most definitely check this one out
as you should any of P's work and be your own judge.
Never listened to Comeback guys but will now since a few
of you think something of this. cool

i like this album about as much as i like 3121...it's not a favorite, but i like it. you can hear the inspiration and the enjoyment in the album, even if it was just something he threw together quickly. i think what disappointed me most about this album was that i was expecting it to be more acoustic than it was, but prince doesn't seem very interested in producing "genuine" acoustic music...i don't know why not - "sometimes it snows in april" was so beautifully done.

anyway. it's not revelatory, but i wouldn't go without it in my collection.

It might've been quickly put together, but I think it's some of the best writing he's done.

I think it's terribly creative, and I think that the fruits of his marathon studio craziness is probably when he's at his best. The only problem I have with the album is that it's known as his "acoustic" album when it's really not, nor do I think Prince ever has or ever will have much interest in the confines of creating a true "acoustic" album. I guess "One Nite Alone" was a bit closer than "The Truth", but I'm waiting for something that sounds as pure as the acoustic sets he did on his last tour.
