Help me with a CD compilation for the casual Prince fan.

You know the drill, someone comes up to you (knows you are a HUGE Prince fan) and wants you to make them a CD or two. They cheerfully add, "Make sure you put Purple Rain on it."

As a Prince fan, I have lost all objectivity to what songs are to be put on a collection like this. I mean, "batdance" was huge, but no self respecting Prince fan would put that on a CD over, say, "DMSR", right? "head" is huge among Prince fans-but does your average Josephine NEED to hear it?

So what to do? Prince has a lot of different types of songs. A person who digs Ani, might like "Sometimes it Snows in April", yet they freak at the club for "pussy Control"--neither are straight up "hits". Again, what to do?

I ask ya'll for help.

Your mission: tracklist 2 80min CD's. Prince songs for the casual fan. What do you pick?

Thank you. Question: Do you feel obligated to put the songs in chronological order? I always try to kick off the CD's with "let's go crazy" and I ususally end with "purple Rain".

Just burn the Purple Rain album, and then add some "club" favorites like Kiss, Raspberry Beret, P Control, Gett Off, 1999, Sexy MF, and if there's still room, try The Most Beautiful... and if they really want it... Batdance.

There's no need for the fan favorites to be on there. This person will either like or not like what they hear and if they want more, that's when you give them more. Give them the simplest, easiest to digest stuff first.

I forgot that you could also add: Little Red Corvette and Diamonds and Pearls...

Otherwise, if you want 2 good CDs at 80 minutes, why don't you just burn The Hits 1 and 2???

I’d put “Raspberry Beret,” “Kiss,” “When Doves Cry,” “Let’s Go Crazy,” “Sign O The Times,” and maybe “Gett Off” or “Cream” on there, but I’d also make sure to include:

“DMSR”
“Blue Light”
“Sleep Around”
“Peach” or “Baby Knows” – casual fans seem to really dig these two
“Lolita”
“Billy Jack Bitch”
Either “Feel U Up” or “Shockadelica”
“17 Days”
And an older song or two. I recommend “Crazy You” and “Bambi.”

Have fun and good luck!

So you are gonna give a casual Prince fan no big hits and some damn near obscure songs?

Since they are a casual fan, give them the songs that they know but give them album and 12 Inch versions that they may not have heard of to keep it interesting.

Let's Go Crazy (12 Inch)
Delirious (Bootleg Long Version)
Little Red Corvette (12 Inch)
U Got The Look (12 Inch)
When Doves Cry (Album Version)
Kiss (12 Inch)
1999 (Album Version)
Batdance (Side Two version on the 12 Inch)
I Would Die 4 U (12 Inch)
Raspberry Beret (12 Inch)
Get Off (12 Inch version that sounds like the original but is longer)
Thieves In The Temple (12 Inch)
The Most Beautiful Girl In The World ("Beautiful" the house version)
Andy is a four letter word.

I made this one for my boss and she loved it!!!

--Starfish and Coffee
--Paisley Park
--The Ballad of Dorothy Parker
--Girls and Boys
--Life Can Be So Nice
--She's Always In My Hair (extended)
--17 Days
--When Doves Cry
--Automatic
--Something In The Water
--Free
--Pop Life
--Strange Relationship
--I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man
--Raspberry Beret
--The Beautiful Ones

As for giving casual fans things they know..uh-uh. They need the obscure stuff to understand what thay've been missing for all these years!

I think that those songs are easy 2 listen 2, and as everybody has already suggested all the big hits, U could pick some of the songs on my list 2 do something a bit different.
