This is the Prince that I grew up on and was telling all of my classmates about in Jr. High. I had already seen P live in concert on his Controversy tour when I was in 7th grade. And I saw him twice on the 1999 tour. The recorded version is one of P's best ever ballads, in my opinion. The song earned him a Grammy nod and it was never even released as a single. Which just goes to show u how impressed folks were with P, even before the Purple Rain takeover. But yeah, live, P took this to another level. I feel ver fortunate to have witnessed THIS Prince in a live setting. It can't be described. It's like two entirely different people compared to how he is now. Even before PR, he was buck wild and off the hook in concert. He had a serious edge that bordered on him being crazy that he ended up toning waaay down in a very few years after that.
