THANK GOD Can you imagine how stifled she might have been under his thumb? I listen to this woman all the time & like Supa said I can't imagine not having her music in my life. She's a fantastic artist. I truly pity anyone who can sum her up as a "bald head" & nothing more - shit, I don't even think she's bald anymore MeShell

Anybody who disses Me'shell obviously has NEVER heard any of her music. I actually don't know where I would be without her grooves. All I have to say is pick up Comfort Woman and Bitter. those 2 albums will go down in history- beleive me.
Also the person asking if she was as good as Rhonda on bass... with all due respect to Rhonda, she could not hold up a lighter to Me'shell fuck a candle.

Now that we've gotten pass some the earlier insane comments disparaging Meshell... I'd like to ask... What's U2b? I'd like to see that interview too! there's also a nice interview on You Tube.

Maybe, but I think Rhonda generally is a little underrated in here. Just listen to the Hawaii 2003 Aftershow for example, or better yet, her solo on Beautiful Strange, Rotterdam Nighttown Aftershow 2002.

aw man...those rapid fire jaw drops followed by several bitchslaps just made me crack the hell up ...laughed out loud...funny stuff ya'll.
and well-deserved too, after the 'bald head' comment. obviously the person who posted that is unfarmiliar with her body of work... or just has limited musical taste. I'm not saying they have to LOVE her work the way i do, but regardless of what type of music you're into, there is NO denying her skill and talent...it deserves MUCH respect. I think, at some point, history will look back at her catalogue of consistently challenging and artistically uncompromising releases and say to itself..."Dayum! how in the HELL did we overlook THIS mighty talent that was creating classics right under our noses??" but ya know what? i ain't waitin' for history to catch up...like several of the other posters in thread, Im on this shit NOW... I heard her perform about 5 or 6 of her new songs live (they may be on her forthcoming album)...these songs are simply as powerful, pulsing & volitile and vibrant as ever...and THEN some... as for the original subject of the thread...like someone else said, i heard that Meshell & Prince originally created a rawer version of 'Emale' together in NY with Meshell developing the bassline and at least part of the melody...but then prince got back to Mineapolis and later re-recorded the whole song ... and his re-recorded version is what you hear on Emancipation (so i don't think she is actually playing on the actual Emancipation track, but she inspired/co-created the original composition) ... the ORIGINAL rawer version with Meshells actual playing is one of my most sought after Vault releases... I think i read that another Emancipation track was originally created/inspired by the Meshell & Prince NY session as well ...i can't remember but i wanna say the song "The Love We Make" is the other track they worked together...and again on this track, while they created an original version in NY, Prince re-recorded the song in his Minneappolis studio and thats whats on Emancipation... (remember at the time Meshell was signed to Warner Bros...Prince's worst enemy at the time...you do the math) at any rate, along with a few others on that album, those are two of the songs on Emancipation that were included in my personal 'best of Prince' compilation... but i'm still betting the raw original versions with Meshell on em sound better...maybe one day we'll find out, but i doubt it...
