What a crazy question so here's a weird response. I always thought the song was about the union of Solomon and the Queen of Sheba.

In Ethiopian tradition, in a sacred book known as The Kebra Negast, the union and eventual seduction of Sheba by Solomon is described in detail.

Solomon uses incense, hot spices and drinks to seduce the Queen of Sheba, by making her vow that she will not steal anything from his palace. Breaking the vow would allow him to lay with her.

The spices, etc makes the Queen thirsty and she drinks a glass of water w/out Solomon's permission. After this, he has his way with her and they sleep together, eventually producing a son known as Menelik, or David the II, who eventually becomes King over Ethiopia.

This song has spiritual undertones, as Prince's music often does, but it certainly isn't about Bible study. It's mainly about Prince's thoughts over a woman he has met that he thinks of constantly, but does not know at all - except for a few chance encounters (of the most interesting kind), never physical but a spiritual, mystical & "silent" connection between the two. This recurring "fantasy" has kept manifesting in life & in his recent songs, starting with: what do you want me to do?; the dance; magnificent; glasscutter; the marrying kind; satisfied; te amo corazon; lolita and incense & candles. they are all about this love affair that has not yet manifested itself in the "real realm". They are both thinking about each other - the universe is grand! He keeps hinting to the same things in all these songs. I could break it down, but I'll just give 1 blatant example regarding this person and her weight, it's mentioned in The Marrying Kind "I'm gonna put her on the same diet Missy went on, you know she eat to much" and in Incense & Candles" "give props to ur mama for the healthy food she must have gave ya ... but the truth is that u're sitting on every1 of your dinners".

"this is a song about a 1 & only mother, there never was b4 & there'll never be another"; "so much anticipation for this conversation for such a long time, like a meeting of 2 nations this special ocassion got us both tongue tied ... the voice that u hear is the alchemy of ur mind"; "at once when I first laid eyes on u, I saw Heaven & Earth anew"
