What songs does Prince hardly ever drastically shorten in concert?

I was just going through my live recordings, and it seems like I don't have a drastically cut "Purple Rain" on anything. Like Prince refuses to perform it in anything less than a complete or extended version. Are there any other songs he places so highly, that he refuses to cut them short?

he very often cuts purple rain short, or does only one verse and a chorus

i think he played only a snippet of it during the Grammy performance two
years ago.

I was thinking of concert performances, but you might be right.

IstenSzek is correct.

Prince began to 'abbreviate' performances of 'Purple Rain' during the Nude tour when he sang one verse and chorus before cutting to the solo. He has employed the same approach now and again to the tune both in concert and one-off shows - as he did at the Brits recently and previously at the Grammys.

Perhaps I could change the subject to songs he shortens least often. biggrin I still say Purple Rain is up there. There's not too many of his songs that he's done full versions of on most of his tours.

i don't think he's ever shortened "shhh", and he might have a "modified" version of "the one" (often as a medley with "shhh"), but it seems to be full enough to be a showcase for his singing and guitar playing, which is fine by me...

sadly nowadays a more telling question would be what songs does Prince play in full anymore ...hardly any.

I noticed this while I was listening to the LA show. Not many tracks are Ipod worthy to me, because they're so short. Still, he has alot of songs to deal with. biggrin

True. And the shows suffer for it.

At leadt with ONA live he played new new ones in full. But the old hits now seem to be all cheesy medleys.

Finally! You are incorrect and I get to correct you! Prince actually started shortening "Purple Rain" at least as early on as during the LoveSexy tour.

I would argue that since, at least, 1985 Prince has been abbreviating some of his songs in concert. During the Purple Rain Tour, he played a shortened version of "little red corvette", snippets of "international lover", and "let's pretend we're married". Prince playing medleys and shortened versions has been going on for 20+ years.
