Did Prince "retire" the cloud guitar? I don't think I've seen him play the guitar made famous in Purple Rain since 2003. Is he done with it? Also, when is the last time he played his symbol guitar (Habibi)? "New Power slide...."

I haven't seen him use the cloud guitar in awhile. I think he links it with a certain period and when he's trying to move foward, I can see where he may just leave it laying on the floor somewhere. I can see him bust out with it on this new tour, but only of course, for Purple Rain. The cloud guitar always reminds me of the bass Andre played on the "Why you Wanna Treat Me So Bad" video. Same exact body, just with four strings. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

Reply #1 posted 05/16/06 10:42am as for the cloud guitar. I probably doubt he'll use it on this tour, but you never know. Since 3121 went #1 and he introduced the cloud with Purple Rain, his first #1 album he might think about bringing it back.

I love the "cloud" guitar, but he's making more magic with the Hohner Tele and the 2 Fender Strats. His new orange Strat is beautiful.

I was thinking about that the other day and I hope he isn't done with it. It's trademark Prince right there and I would love to see him tear up the stage with it again. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I wish he had a guitar that was shaped like a toilet. All you others say Hell Yea!!

I actually like the sound of the cloud more than the others. One thing for sure, though - the hohner's lead sound (due to different pickups) has definitely gotten better over the years. I was checking out some live Dirty Mind tour videos over at (can't say it) and the hohner lead sound wasn't that great. The cloud had a distinctive lead sound - you knew it was definitely P playing. I love the cloud guitar partly because of its size - it's so small, it's distinctively Prince - I couldn't imagine many other people playing it.

It was so strange to see Ron Wood (of the Rolling Stones) play it. Kinda cool in a weird sort of way. Some people tell me I've got great legs...

I'd love to have one but it's so small I'd look ridiculous playing it. It did give him a signature sound, but it wasn't my favorite tone. Telecasters are the big Indie guitar of the moment. That's Prince, typical indie rocker! My Legacy

I don't know if it's symbolic or not, but on the PRINCE LIVE AT THE ALADDIN LAS VEGAS, he lays it on the ground onstage and covers it with his handkerchief in a big show. Has it been seen since live? I think he's done with it, at least live performance wise as a matter of style.

That reminds me, didn't he do the same thing on the musicology tour? Was it a different guitar? My Legacy

I kinda dug that raw, nasty sound from Prince's Tele during the "Dirty Mind/Controversy" shows.

Yes, he could use it to play songs from Chaos & Disorder. "Don't hate me cos I'm beautiful"
