Prince rarely dips his toe into this territory these days, and probably with good reason - he's generally terrible at it.

Not that there aren't good examples of Prince attempting electronic or dance music, 'New World' is my favourite Emancipation track, but Prince's attempts often sound very dated, staid and plain tacky.... I don't think he really listens to much dance music to soak in any influences above the very surface of commerciality.

IMO, there have been convincing and interesting attempts at dance music, the NPG b-sides are listenable, and a few things from 86-88 were really soaking in influences of House and (Detroit) Techno - 'Bob George', 'The Line', some of the other Lovesexy and Black Album stuff.

Actually many of his songs have an electronic edge to them as evidenced by Erotic City, Head, When DOves Cry etc.

I think Prince does it best when he uses elements of the electronic sound but doesn't dip into just plain old imitation.

Prince built his career on electronic instruments. I don't know what y'all are going on about.

I believe it's in the handbook for The Hits that it says Prince hates electronic instumentation. He likes old classical sounds.
