If I Was Prince - CD I was browsing through Virgin records today, when lo-&-behold I came across a CD in the Prince section by various artists titled "If I Was Prince".
There's 10 Prince songs covered by various (unknown) artists. Does anyone have this CD? Is it worth the $15.00??? I found it in CDNOW and sampled the audio clips...most of it sounds bad. Comments anyone??? Check it out 4 yourself- http://www.cdnow.com/cgi-...as+Prince/ By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

A whole CD of unknowns has to be the worst

Dang "most of it sounds bad"? Try all of it! If this is a sample of these peeps talents they should remain unknown. I wonder if they got the OK from Prince to commit that slaughter on his work. Now excuse me while I go pop in The Truth to make up to my ears for that assult.
PS aren't there other tribute albums out there for his music? [This message was edited Fri Jul 19 21:21:11 PDT 2002 by STARFISHNCOFFEE]

Well! Then I'm just pissed. I like some covers of his work but it is solely because the people did try to do the songs credit. But obviously these people didn't. They slaughtered some great music by one of the greatest musicians of our time. Dang I want to track some of these people down and give em a good kick in the ass.

See what I mean? Prince music is timeless...it doesnt sound right with anyone but himself doing his own stuff. "Climb in my fur."

I haven't heard the songs on it, but from what everybody is saying it sounds like it's time for THE BEATDOWN SQUAD. Where's Billysparxx? This post not for the wimp contingent. Misty Dixon does the best remake of "The Beautiful Ones", and I don't know who the hell Misty Dixon is.

It's awful. One listen and then I slotted it away into "Collection only" oblivion.
"Party O' The Times" is a better tribute album, has Ice-T doing "Head" and a few other reasonable/funny ones.

This compilation isn't going to burn up your CD player, but it's FAR, FAR better than the Party O' The Times disc. I know that isn't saying much, but...
I especially like the Peaches version of "Sexy Dancer" - very silly, very fun. I'm a big fan of her "Teaches of Peaches" album anyway, so maybe I'm biased...

I think this is quite a good album myself. Its very refreshing to hear covers by alternative artists.
As Anxiety said Sexy Dancer is absolutely hilarious, I also love The Beautiful Ones by Misty Dixon. I think the only track I don't like is Alphabet Street. Personally I'd recommend that you buy it and decide for yourself. Some people are like Slinkies...
They're good for nothing but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.

Does anyone remember that song "We Want Prince" from like 1985? I think it was a one-off (no album attached) but he samples it during that last song on TRC, I think I may be the only person who owns this.
Anyone? | |

I have a compilation called "Austin Does Prince," feauturing a bunch of unknown artists in Austin TX. For the most part everyone destroys their attempted "tribute." But there is one cover I like: a version of TAKE ME WITH U with a country and western vibe and it actually works. Hell yah Peaches & Lap Lap give 'sexy dancer' a risqué makeover It is really funny actually ... i love the dialogue, they fuse all things prince related ... "how we gonna get 2 the party ... how about the little red corvette, or maybe my baby's blue limousine" so on n so forth ... its quite the delight, i have the Mp3 if anyone would like a taste of it Got Gackt??!

The "nays" have it-!
I'm upset that they took one of my all-time favorites - "Ballad Of Dorothy Parker" and apparently butchered it. I'll spend my cash on Bacardi Brezers instead... By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

i like the song: controversy
but unknown artists should make music that will be their own not just do some cover.
