Tamar=Larry & Chaka revisited The Musicology Tour was the ultimate Prince experience. The way things are playing out with this tour, be prepared to experience the Larry & Chaka thing all over again, this time with Tamar. That tour vibe was not right when Prince, the person we all bought tickets to see, comes out before his set to play with his idols.....who most people who are in attendance do not care to see. We buy tickets to see our hero...not to be forced to experience artists who don't have a chance of gaining a fan base. ...Hopefully he'll Go back to just Prince!

I don't think it's fair to say that Tamar doesn't stand a chance at establishing her own fanbase.
I do believe that she needs to be marketed outside of Prince's fanbase because they are too hardcore to allow anyone else to shine around P. [Edited 5/11/06 9:38am]

Up to now I think she´s cool.....unless he starts shoving her down our throats...I think it´s too early to make a judgment like that, people didn´t complain when Vanity 6 were around, or when Sheila E. used to open for him.
Tamar looks nice, has a nice voice and seems to be quite energetic, so as far as I´m concerned she doesn´t bother me at all, I will definitely check out her CD. My views might change though if he continues charging lots of money for a show billed as a Prince show and then proceeds to turn it into a Tamar show with lots of cover versions. Let´s wait and see. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

If Tamar's album is anything like Come 2 My House, I would be a happy bunny.
If it is anything like GCS2000, I'm gonna take a shit on it.

Yeah, I do agree, when Prince was hyping Chaka and Larry, you'd tune in to see Prince on some tv program and instead Chaka would sing a song, Larry would sing a song, oh, and Prince might fit a song in at the end. The same is already happening with Tamar, he's totally fixated on promoting her at the moment, the stupid thing is you know from past experience that after a year or 2 Prince will cut her adrift and you'll hardly see her anymore!
I think when he next tours we can certainly expect a few songs Performed by Tamar, at worst a whole chunk of the concert. I guess if you really like her that's cool, but personally I think she is an adequate backing singer but nothing more, from what I've heard so far. Who exactly is she going to sell to? Being a protege of Prince comes with a lot of baggage. Non-fans are not going to care too much about her unless the material is solid gold (and Prince inevitably keeps the stronger songs for himself of couse) and even Prince-fans don't seem too enamoured with her and the more Prince pushes her down our throats, the less we'll like her! The only market she has is collector Prince fans who buy anything and everything related in some way to Prince.

Can you tell me what evidence you are basing this on? The majority if not all of the reviews that came back from the Tamar featuring Prince show was very positive. I saw the show in Miami and it was incredible. Have you seen the show? Most people may not care to see Chaka and Larry, however, most if not all who saw the Tamar show did not leave dissapointed and had a great time. I'm not making any judgements on the success or failure of Tamar's career because it is too soon to tell. All I know is that she rocked the show I went to and she can really really sing. [Edited 5/11/06 13:27pm] The difference is, that those shows were clearly advertised as Tamar concerts with Prince as a guest. People should have known what they were going to get and the tickets were not that expensive. But the new shows in Vegas and probably any following tour is advertised as Prince with special guest Tamar. The emphasis is on Prince but he's still giving a lot of time to Tamar, if the set-list at the recent purple ticket is anything to go by, which I reckon most fans going to see a Prince concert will not realise and could easily feel disappointed by.

When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.

if you bought tickets expecting to see only Prince, then you can't read, because it was announced as a joint tour for the 3 of them. if you know, full well that he's sharing the stage before you buy the tickets, then you can't complain that he shared the stage.

I think most not-in-the-know fans that buy a ticket for a concert labelled Prince with guest Tamar would more-than-likely think Tamar was the support act before the concert, as happened with Chaka and Larry, rather than someone singing half the songs of the setlist of the actual concert. If the setlist from the purple party carries over, of course. [Edited 5/12/06 10:12am]
