With the talk of this "supergroup" anyone ever think that Prince and the Revolution and the NPG and all the varying backing performers/vocalists/dancers through the years -- if they were still together (today) jamming and stuff -- could ever emulate George Clinton and Parliament-Funkadelic All-Stars?

Could we see in the future something of a paisley funk supergroup or will we see Prince always in control and with his own small backing bandmates?

Brother, you know I love you but I gotta disagree.

Outside of Micheal Bland and Levi Seacer the band was mediocre at best. Sonny T was cool but he couldn't hold a candle to Rick or Norwood. Hell I could throw in Lonnie Marshall(Weapon of Choice) and really destroy people!

We talked about this in Atlanta. I think the problem Prince has had post Revolution is that the musicians he surrounded himself with were "yes men"
Dez, Andre, Wendy and Lisa all stood up to Prince. They were all on his level in a musical sense. You got the feeling that they didn't want or need Prince in order to make it. The 95 band were just happy to be put on. Prince knew that most of those cats "needed him" That's why he could do whatever he wanted with them. If any of them questioned the direction of the music, he would cut them off. I've read interviews with Tommy B about how Prince whould add all this extra stuff to the music without consulting with anyone. Prince needs cats to challenge him. Listening to the Gold album, outside of Dolphin, I hate U, and Billy Jack Bitch, it sounds flat. Like people were afraid to let loose. That's just my opinion. If Prince allowed someone like Questlove in the booth it would be like Band of Gypsies 2006!

Again, just my opinion. I think Prince was at his best 1979-1987. That's not to say he was bad in the later years. (TRC is on point!) You just get a sense that our boy is pressing. It happens to all the great ones. Miles Davis always surrounded himself around the baddest cats not to throw his ego around but to have them challenge him as an artist. Micheal Jordan could have averaged 50pts a game before Phil Jackson, Scottie Pippen, and Horace Grant came along. It's not that Pippen and Grant were better or even on the same level talent wise. The thing is, they all demanded RESPECT from MJ. That kept his ego in check and allowed the team to wreck for 6 titles. It's the same with Prince. He needs cats to "check" him when needed.
